| If it's to be a quality Aussie then I doubt they'll be in post any time soon. That's not to say we won't install someone with a bit more experience than JJB in the meantime on a short term basis. Why allow matters to drift for 6 months when there are matters that a merely competent coach could be addressing? Not out of the question that a Danny Ward or Paul Anderson could step in, maybe taking on the assistant's role in due course. That might explain the interview sequence.

| Chris, you cant compare this to normal recruitment. There are probably about 150 people in the world qualified to be Leeds Rhinos head coach really. Probably less.
We arent going to appoint an academy or amateur coach, we arent going to knock on a coaches door from 80s or 90s. Its going to be recent head coach, a current head coach (highly unlikely) or a current assistant.
We arent sifting thru 600 CVs here to find an office junior.

Yes that could be the case, what if GH has found the right candidate in Australia but they don't want to come in until next year, we want a long term solution not a quick fix. Yes we need a quick fix to rescue this season but that doesn't automatically mean the long term coach installed straight away.
Take the rent coaches at Hull and Hudds for example they were put in place for the following season giving time to plan everything properly, and even then it has taken them a year in post to sort out the team, this is not a quick fix job.

You can compare to some extent but I actually agree it's actually more difficult princely because there are fewer candidates.
You've just written that it could be a current coach or assistant with an existing job, on the other side of the world, that's not a quick or easy decision to make nor is it a simple thing to arrange.
I'm not sure what you want here, do you want the right person or a quick appointment to pacify the fans? GH isn't going to (not should he) be giving a running update on the interviews, its highly unprofessional.

But he did give an update yesterday Chris. He made it clear he would be interviewing European candidates after interviewing Australian candidates. Im asking why he didnt do that prior to going? Is that unreasonable given the clubs current position?

| Christopher I m with you 100% in what you say absolute sense in regards to recruiting. None of us know what’s gone on either here or in Oz. It could well be that we will have an interim coach until the end of the season with a new head coach next season. Or we might be having a 2nd round here who really knows. However I am glad that we have not rushed in with a John K type of appointment on a full time basis.
I think Sebold is still in the UK, maybe after the England RU disappointment he is an option.

He gave an ambiguous update because fans are restless.
I don't know why he didn't, maybe the European candidates couldn't do the interviews before he went, maybe they are currently head coach and had a challenge cup quarter final to prepare for, who knows, I'm not even sure why its that much of an issue which way round he interviews them, it just seems like nitpicking because you are currently on a downer with the club, without considering the actual practicalities of the situation.
Theres a whole raft of reasons why it might have been done this way, the fact they have doesn't indicate anything without knowing the reasons.
GH flew out a week after Agar left, he will have had to spend that week arranging the trip and those interviews in Australia, that takes time, maybe he wanted to arrange the UK interviews properly and give the candidates time to prepare, Maybe the candidates weren't available that week, its been 3 weeks people are talking as if its been 3 months.

| The reason its important which way round he conducted the interviews is because he would now have concluded tge interviews rather than another week down the line.
Im not on a downer on the club at all. Im on a downer about the way the club is being run and this is further evidence of it in my opinion.

Marty, it's a week, this appointment will take a bit of time, I've given you some practical reasons why they may have been done this way round, I may be totally wrong it could be that GH is incompetent and he just wanted a nice jolly to Australia.
I honestly think the fact they have been done this way is a total none story and people are getting worked up over nothing and reading far too much into it without any knowledge of the situation - I don't particularly mean you more some of the comments by fans on twitter etc.

| It's perfectly sensible for GH to have travelled to Australia in-person to meet coaches there first. It's a statement of intent that he is taking the matter seriously, rather than conducting proceedings via Zoom (etc). It would be also foolish to completely shut out options from the UK , so it makes sense to interview people here even if there is a preference for Aussie options. No doubt all candidates would have been told that Leeds will make a decision after completing all the interviews; this is pretty standard in recruitment even if you have a preferred choice in mind. No doubt all the candidates will have been asked how soon they are able to take up the position, and to keep the club updated in case these realities change in the meantime.
I don't expect any of this means we're destined to get a UK-based coach, or that an Aussie can only be in place for next year. These things take time, so we need to be patient.
