| Some of our core players that usually get a pass are also a problem - both Smith and Oledzki don't play well often enough.
Adam Clune is awful - hasn't played a single NRL game this year in a fairly rubbish Knights side. May as well skip that generation and take a chance on someone like Schneider. He isn't a world beater but he's a better halfback than either of ours.
I think there are better halfback options that could be available. There's a surplus at the Dolphins, which I keep mentioning - any one of them would be worth a look.

Im not sure what your obsession is with me but it’s getting a bit strange.

Whilst I agree on some level that there are better younger halfbacks to look at, they are also much more of a risk as they may not work out plus probably don't want to move overseas. In terms of Clune, he played nearly every game last year and now has Hastings in front of him. Clune looked ok to me in a poor Newcastle side, kept his spot while Jake Clifford who is a marvel over here was dropped and sent packing. Make of that what you will.

Haven't seen a lot of Clune in the NRL, but looking at a couple of the NSW Cup highlight packages he looks tidy old fashioned half with a very good short and long passing game. If we were to get him my preference would be to replace Austin with a six with a bit of speed. I know two new halves is always a risk, but what I really don't see what we have to lose.

Are you suggesting we get rid of Smith and Oledski?

I think some want rid of the whole lot, after a loss that is, a few weeks ago there were people berating the club for not signing up Austin on a two year deal because we’d won.

| I don't want rid of Oledzki and Smith. They are part of the problem because as individuals they can do a lot better. They can and should take more responsibility when others aren't playing well. Is that too much to ask for an England fringe player and someone a lot of people suggest should be captain?
As for Clune, its likely that at the start of next season he won't have played first grade for over a year. I think we can do better.

So I think Smith has been one of our best and most consistent players all year; didn’t have an impact last night.
Oledski isn’t in the same form as last season but he would still make any side’s 4 prop rotation I’d say. He’s still relatively young.
Clune I’m not excited about I have to say, but I don’t know enough about him. It does sound like we are struggling to attract talent in this market. Then again we have paid over the odds for 70% of our overseas players in recent years especially marquees.
New strike FB with pace; new 6 or 7, another big middle would be my choices still and the club needs to decide whether Johnson or O’Connor are able to take the team forward at 9 or whether we need another option.

| I think you're too forgiving on what should be two of our top performers every week. I think our 1,6,7 and 9 were worse, but they didn't help. Too many of our squad are underperforming as individuals, and too many only play well when everyone else does.
Maybe off topic, maybe not, but one thing did make me laugh today was Matt Shaw describing Leeds as a young team. The forwards are, but the average age of the back division is 30, with Ash Handley the youngest at 27. I'm struggling to think of when we've ever had an older set of backs.

| We have Newman who would usually be in the back line if fit, and young Max Simpson would have got game time this year if he hadn’t done his knee. We have some decent outside backs coming through the system too still.
I’m not too worried about the age of the back line, although we could do with Martin being back in the second row ideally. A younger FB would make a difference.
We looked like we lacked pace against Saints at times.
