Why would you choose Leeds over the South Of France? We would have been stupid to try and win him, 3 year deal at 33? Happy for him, but 1 injury at that ages could define his next 3 years and then be a waste and we end up with Sutty in the halves again or Myler. I still think Gale is coming and now we might bid for Burgess.

I rate Gale highly but it's a risk given his major injury..

I’m not gutted to miss this one, I think it’s a great signing but also a very risky one.

Great to see him in SL.

There are lots of good NRL halves you could sign for the kind of money Maloney will be on, all is not lost.

Or we end up with Gale. I’m not sure Gale and Lui is a title winning half back combo but would be a step up from where we have been.

We won't sign Gale. He isn't good enough. Might aswell keep Myler.

Sezer would do very nicely for me. Either way we need a major upgrade to Myker.

Well, a bit of egg on the face for the poster who claimed Maloney had signed for us.

I'm not too disappointed with this news. It's a hell of a risk for a player of his age and supposed defensive frailties; I'm more disappointed we missed Hastings tbh, who has had a proven impact in SL already.

I'm not thrilled with Gale but we'd be kidding ourselves in assuming he wouldn't be a significant upgrade on Myler. And it would be nice to welcome back a home grown player to the club, instead of relying on overseas signings, which carry a significant element of risk.

If we don't get Gale, I'd imagine the club will be monitoring the situation so that we are well placed for any mid-season signing opportunities for next season (assuming we are still in SL!). Hooker may also be another top priority.

I know Myler isn't flavour of the month on southstander (myself included). But poor performances aside, there's clearly no lack of effort from him, including some promising signs in Lui's debut, and if he can regain some composure I think there's still a good chance of him forming a decent partnership with Lui. Hopefully this will be enough to help us survive this season - beyond that it could be good enough for a mid-table SL team...

Maloney will be good for SL. Personally I'd rather have Hastings as well except for his NRL clause as in 2 or 3 years he'll be at his peak.

I'd rather we didn't go for a second choice now tbh - we've got one in lui already and the NRL names bandied about like Reynolds and Foran just aren't the same class.

If we stay up next year needs to be focused on weeding out more dross and promoting some of the good kids. That's how we built up to the golden generation. Its just a shame we've sunk so far for so long without going back to what worked before.

It's not how much talent you've got, it's what you do with it that counts.

Re: Transfer Talk / Rumour Thread V2 : Wed Jul 24, 2019 11:49 am
Not too fussed about missing Maloney. No doubt he’s have raised our attacking threat and been a much better in game kicker than we have, but the downsides would have been age, contract length, and cost.

If we have got Gale, that would be good, but I’ll believe it when I see it. If not, we must find a better halfback than Myler, who no doubt tries when he’s on the field, but he’s just not good enough.

Gale was top notch for a couple of years but has barely played for 2 years now.Plus the affects those injuries will have and he must be 30ish too.

I hope the lad gets back to his best at Cas but like you say, too much of a risk.

Good post, and very true.

I think we either need a top half proper 7 with a decent kicking game or a really good dominant 9. I think a top class 9 would relieve pressure on Myler to guide us round the park, and would take the pressure of some of the tactical kicking...

The only issue is who is avaliable. I'd sack off Hurrell in a second if Cameron Smith fancied a Super League stint.
