Benefit of the doubt from me over Zane at the moment. I am concerned though - he should be MoM contender most games and he hasn’t been so far.

Our next signing or two might just make the difference between closing the gap in 2022 or having a nearly year. I don’t think we have cap space to make a splash though.

Don`t think he`s been on his own tonight.
Only ones doing anything is Lui and Smith with Myler doing ok.

Zane has had a hugely disrupted season and imo is played in not his best position at 13. Covid hit him very very hard. I think he’ll be much better next year but he needs one no doubt

Isn’t he marquee Tetevano? I never bought that at all. He’s not been a household name at international level, he’s never been an automatic name in a first 13 of an NRL club (he has been in a 17)and he’s had disciplinary issues throughout his career. If we talk about why the marquee allowance was brought in, he goes totally against the reasoning behind it. I bet he can’t believe his luck tbh. It’s not that he’s a bad player but he’s never a marquee in a million years.

Problem is, such is the gap between SL and NRL that a squad player in NRL can easily command marquee money over here. It’s just how it is.

Agree Shabs.
He was poor last night - and it was such an opportunity for him to make an impact.
But he wasn't on his own.
In terms of marquee signing, given the climate at the time and the level of quality of player coming over from the NRL, I think he was as good as we could get.
Seasoned international with a long pedigree in the NRL. Regularly playing in one of the top 2 teams. We couldn't really have asked for more.
But his first season has been disappointing, culminating in Walmsley totally dominating him (and the others) last night

Maybe mitigating circumstances with covid, so agree we give him the benefit of the doubt.
BUT - he needs a solid pre-season and we need a BIG season from him next year.
He needs to be a rotating prop and have an impact for 2 x 20 mins.
Playing him at 13 is not working. Smith should be there.
Tetevano is passing the ball too much. He should just run with it!! And hit hard in D. His game should be simple.

I do think several of our squad have really struggled post-COVID. Took Martin months and Prior hasn’t been the same player at the back end. Hard to say with Zane.

The single biggest thing this team needs to do, in addition to the new signings, is get some physical conditioning into them. 5-10% improvements individually for our younger players adds up to a significant difference in games.

We've seen glimpses of Tet over the season and what he can offer.
How many players have come to Super League and in their first season here struggled. It's very common. Add to this Covid.
Personally I think we will have a better opinion, or at least we will have seen more of him to form an opinion by the end of 2022.

I dunno mate, think Austin, Sezer, Hastings - pretty much anyone Saints has signed... Barba... it's not uncommon for someone to come over here and tear it up in the first year either.

There are some that take a year or two to settle in. Hopefully Tet is in that camp, and absolutely with COVID these are unprecedented times. If we have players with forms of long-COVID, it doesn't take much to take 10% off your game at this level.

Has anyone heard of any updates on the recruitment front? It would be brilliant if we could confirm our squad for 2022 early and get as many as possible in for the first day of pre-season.

I'm guessing we are still waiting for business to get tied up in the NRL before we know who might be left dangling.

Think as far as Tet is concerned we have to wait and hope that he plays more than 50% of the games next year. My main concern is that as far as refs and disciplinary are concerned he is a marked man with one rule for him and another for the rest. Some decisions have been really bad and it needs sorting as bad decisions on field can be game changing!
