Bulldogs had him up for sale didn't they at one point.. think they've just taken him off the market. Bit strange all round. He's on around $900k a year i believe !! which shows the difficulties SL faces to bring in top NRL talent.

Another potential spanner in the works which may influence the number of players who may think about coming to Super League is that the NRL are adding a new team to their competition in 2023.

The Dolphins.

Players considering SL may decide to stay in Aus, thinking a job opportunity is available within the next 12 months. We know that the players in Aus get paid considerably more than they do by coming over here.

On that point, I wouldn't be worried about offering a 1-year deal to a player in this market. You can always talk about options once they're here and playing well, and if they want to go back to an expansion club of whatever that's fine.

With such a young and developing team, our longer-term answers are within. The lads just need time, role models, support.

If we don't register him next year as a player, can we pay him off then? If he's nor registered he can't be part of the salary cap. not sure how it works.

I dont think that is an option as Thompson's contract was for 3 years.So the total contract value is split evenly over the 3 years.

To be fair I thought Thompson played alright in a couple of games towards the end of the season, but I still can't for the life of me view his signing as a good idea with that length of contract.

Alright so maybe we're only paying him £40k a year or something (I've no idea), but locking up an OS spot for 3 years on a Championship standard player is bonkers.

Anyway we should have a few options next year - year of culling the dead wood for me, with due respect to the players. Interesting battles at full back, centre, scrum half, second row.
