Still makes no sense. We are now in a position where we lose the pressure for places in the halfbacks and one major injury to either Austin or Sezer and our season is effectively over.

How many clubs run with 3 half backs of that quality in SL ? it doesn't happen. It would only be for one season anyway.. there's a balance to be had. It's a major luxury having 3 quality halves, there's much more requirement in the squad going forward for a prop.

There’s not many teams run with 3 top line halfbacks

Id swap Gale for another prop!

That prop would need to be one who would get in the 17 on a weekly basis and there are not a huge number floating about, in particular British. If we don’t bring in a top level prop I don’t understand the move, if we do then I can see the thought process.

Also depends what Hull are prepared to pay to get him.

Leeds had Burrow, Sinfield and McGuire who were able to step into different roles throughout the Golden era.

I just think we've deliberately set up the squad to have these players in what was shaping up to be a one-off year where we had incredible squad depth; part of that also involved releasing the reserve half back.

To now revert back to having to use Myler or even Sutcliffe, or switching Leeming to half back and exposing Dwyer to starting is really unpalatable and could be the difference between winning a title and losing it when the normal injuries come into play.

But if he wants to go what can you do?

It doesn’t sound like its the club actively forcing him out!

If we get a fee its better than letting him go fo free next year.

Be surprised if this happens, for next season, but wouldn’t be too fussed, Gale was awful last year when he was even on the field.
But would would be really funny would be Gale and O Conner in same team, they would be the oppositions wet dream, more windupable than the entire Warrington and Saints Team when Ryan Bailey was playing, can anyone see those too playing well together.

This would leave us really exposed to injury in the halves in what is a really big year for the club. I hope we don't let it happen.

I think we need to remember players are human beings and not just resources.

From Gale’s point of view he’s had the shame of the captaincy being stripped from him, compounded by Leeds signing other senior players in his position.

How would you feel?

Not saying he is in the right or the wrong. If Hull were prepared to offer him say a 2 year deal and a chance for a fresh start - I could see it.

Moat of us on here are ruling an Austin/Sezer first choice half back partnership next year - Gale is an ego and might want to remain top dog.

If I were him I’d have little interest in being Leeds back-up 7 next season.

You also don’t know if there’s ongoing tension between Gale and other players and/or Agar - he’s a loud character.

Good posts points well made by both.
The writing has been on the wall for a few months with rumours about Gale leaving not going away.

It is as said in the ingests of both player and club if this is settled soon and I don’t blame either party, life goes on.

What I find amusing is that some of the same people are now saying we will no light in the halves when some were previously saying Gale should go to find space on the Cap for a prop. I can see comments if we sign a prop we should have signed a half. It’s a Cap sport so if we sign a prop we will not be able to afford a halfback and in any case why would a decent half sign to be a 2nd choice?
If we use the space left to make a good prop we will be in a good place to push on and look for major silverware.

Re: Transfer Talk / Rumour Thread V3 : Fri Nov 05, 2021 4:41 pm
It was always going too be a big ask for us too run with 3 Top halves next year in Sezer, Austin & Gale. For me I'd be happy too let Gale leave as long as we get some sort of Fee for him still having a year on his contract with us and we use his salary too good affect providing the right player is available e.g a solid British prop. Luke Thompson would be the dream especially with all the uncertainty around him at Canterbury for refusing covid Vaccine. When Leeds had Sinfield, Burrow & Mcguire all in same team the game/ sport was different Sinfield played most of the early golden generation at loose forward with Mcguire & Burrow slotting in halves and then when game evolved again Sinfield & Mcguire moved in Halves and Burrow was used as impact hooker off bench under Brain Mcdermott. I could not see us doing any that with Sezer, Austin & Gale they are all out and out halves especially Sezer & Gale Austin could do a job at loose forward or in centres but I think it would be a case of too many cooks spoil the broth. It probably leaves us short in halves especially in Sezer or Austin picked up a long term injury but if Walker can stay fit Myler & Leeming will step in halfbacks when needed, but like I say if we got a another big Prop from Gales money that would definitely help our halves even more than signing a new halfback.

I very much doubt we're getting a fee.
Also, once Hull approached, and Leeds said they could speak to him, that's Leeds opening the door rather than Gale agitating for a move.
