Yes, that's the entire point.

The squad next year had an almost once-in-a generation depth of quality to it, across the park thanks to Austin being cheap and our younger players being still paid low salaries compared to the upgrades that are undoubtedly coming in a year or so. Gale leaving seriously undermines that.

But as I say

If he wants to go what can you do? He doesn’t strike me as the type of player to want to play for a place (I don’t know him so could be wrong!)

We don't know that he wanted to go. Leeds accepted an offer from Hull to speak to him. Once a club does that you know the writing is on the wall. We've seen nothing to suggest Gale actively wanted to leave until then.

Well i know that’s why i said if.

For all we know the club could have asked Gale before accepting the request.

We also dont know how he will recover from his latest injury!

Seems likely that he did. Otherwise why would we open that avenue and effectively end the tenure of a player that at the very least would have his uses.

I just think we've deliberately set up the squad to have these players in what was shaping up to be a one-off year where we had incredible squad depth; part of that also involved releasing the reserve half back.

To now revert back to having to use Myler or even Sutcliffe, or switching Leeming to half back and exposing Dwyer to starting is really unpalatable and could be the difference between winning a title and losing it when the normal injuries come into play.

Totally agree.
Wait for the outcry on here next season when one of Myler, Sutcliffe or Leeming have to fill in at halfback and we look toothless again.

There would be outcry whatever.

Imagine having one of Sezer, Austin or Gale not being picked the ‘outcry’ would be why are we wasting salary cap on a half when we need a prop

I would be sorry to see him go like some have said we were shaping up to having a decent squad with competition in most positions.
We bought Austin for his utility more than anything and from what Agar/Hetherington were saying was that Gale was going nowhere .
My thoughts were that Austin could cover a number of positions including hooker but could step in if either Austin/Gale got injured.
Sutton would be a good shout if we can`t get Thompson or possibly Watts.

We never seem to have a fully fit squad to choose from, but if we did there would be more positions than halfback where decent earners would be missing out.
Sezer like Gale has had is injury problems last season, so we are going into next season with less options at halfback than this year.
I agree we could have done with another prop and if this results in a top quality one arriving then at least there would be a method behind it. I still think that it is a mistake though.

Whatever happens Gale leaves or stays, we sign a prop or we don’t. The main thing is it has got people posting again after days of almost nothing.
Thompsons name keeps coming up but how on earth can we afford him unless Scruge manages to pull off a 2nd wonder signing getting South’s to pay the majority of his wage!!
