Come on you half-empties, it's not all doom and gloom.

Consider the actual squad we have for a minute. Lui, Ava and Martin have all been significant additions this year - that's three additional starting players from 13. We've got rid of a lot of dead wood and that process is ongoing. Ward and Crosby should be fully fit for 2020. We have some of the best young talent in the comp.

All our Academy prospects are a year bigger, wiser, more experienced. Some more will soon be ready to make the step that Newman has this year.

I didn't say I was entirely happy with the squad because it's obvious we still lack star quality. However I stand by that I'm not too UNhappy, given how low we've sunk and the stage we're at in redevelopment.

If we do win half our league games next year I'd call that progress. I would be happy with progress because I don't expect us to return to #1 even with a couple more astute signings. The Golden side took years in the making, the right coach setting the bedrock and a particular set of players coming through together.
I'm with you on this.

Well, notwithstanding what we do with Gale and maybe one or two other tweaks, I write down our likely starting side and it looks solid.

We are, IMHO, in much better shape now than at the end of the McD era. About half of that side is now plying its trade in the Championship.

Surely an impossible task as you can't say who we would have beaten, but I suppose you can say that if we are 7 from 13 and we had have got 7 from the first 14 we would be on 28 points and looking to get in the playoffs rather than on 22.

But then its pointless as we have a few different players aswell

The golden generation took years as you say. Does that mean its OK to be rubbish for another 3 or 4 years? IMO no. People on here used to laugh at sts 'decline' but they never really fell that far.

I understand the need to credit Agar but some of the commentary makes it sound like we've won every game under him. We've still been rubbish far too often and our squad has far too many passengers.

Kaeru you say our squad looks 'solid' but how many would get into sts or wires 17? Nowhere near enough to justify 'solid' IMO.

In similar vain, how would the results have looked had we had a goal kicker of the caliber of Martin from the start of the season.

And had the same fixtures, where let’s be honest, have been much easier in the second half of year, as we all commented on even when the fixtures were announced end of last year.

Wire are not a great team - they've lost 6 in a row, they have a great signing in Austin but bar that they are bang average (as is most of SL)

Who would get in the team from our team? I'd suggest

Walker
Merrin
Hurrell
Martin
Ward
Lui (they haven't got any halfbacks bar Austin)
Ava
Handley

They would all get in the wire side IMO.

My definition of “solid” is probably more Mid-upper table than top of the table mate.

It’s just the reality of where we’re at on the path to recovery. A year ago around half our team was Championship standard, we were lost and falling fast.

Now I don’t think you could say the same thing. There are a number of players we could do with shedding to clear the path for Academy players yes - for me most of that process should be complete by this time next year.

I am genuinely enthusiastic about this young Leeds side for a couple of years down the line. I do think next year will be a building year, after a Herculean effort to clean the stables a bit this year and just stay in the top flight come what may.
