Starting to see why you're a fan of Trueman...

Non vaccinated players are currently obliged to follow a different, more rigorous, isolation process if picked up by tracing protocols. They also aren't allowed to play in France. Their actions are wilfully putting themselves out of contention for selection and, most likely, reducing the team's chances of success. It's so far out of kilter with the idea of putting the team first that it's hard not to imagine some fall out within some divided clubs this year when teammates get fed up of this attitude.

Have I said I’m a fan of Trueman? I’m a fan of freedom of speech, informed consent and I respect everybody’s personal health decisions…..
Just think the world needs more tolerance rather than more blame culture……

And that is a nice sentiment. Fact is, when contracts come to be extended or when players seek to test the market their choices/decisions will be taken into consideration and in an already short career there will be financial implications. I hope the likes of Trueman understand that. Anyway on Trueman as a player - very good on his day but dogged by injury and not the most consistent according to the Cas fans I know. At this stage, going purely on his Rugby abilities, I would pass.

Has any club in SL got 100% vaccination take up? Must be a lot of furious clubs in the competition.

Players are entitled to choose, personally i dont understand why people wont get the vaccine, but its everybodys individual choice. It doesnt 100% guarantee you dont catch covid.

If i was a coach or administrator i would try to encourage them to have the vaccine but it doesnt mean they are uneducated dip shits and i wouldnt be furious in any way.

As for contract negotiations there was a market for Zak Hardaker after all he had done and been banned for. Trust me on this folks, Trueman wont be blackballed for not putting a needle in his arm.

I think there are some cases where a player might have legitimate reasons to avoid vaccine, but they are few.

The evidence which supports vaccine as an effective protection is overwhelming.

You can bang on about personal choice but one person being more likely to get infected has implications on other people, because you know we don’t just cruise through life with no consideration for our fellow people.

I’m going to call it (in most cases) flat out ignorance not to get vaccinated - some may call it personal choice. But those choices have consequences on the health of other people, on the further spread of disease generally, and on the commercial viability of RL in this case.

It is a fine line and I get the point about blame and judgement too, but IMO our society is way too selfish and selfish people pee me off.

Agree that there will always be a market. My point is that it might be diminished in terms of financial rewards, especially if Covid stays with us. If I'm paying the wages and I know for a fact that X player will be missing maybe a tenth of fixtures per year ( without even considering injuries)then I'd be sure their salary reflected that. Bloody awful thing this pandemic.

Yes, there are clubs with 100% vaccination rates. The competition as a whole has 81% uptake, and we know 2 clubs are under 50% which means that they make up the vast majority of the remaining 19%. So logically the vast majority of clubs are at 100% or close to it.

And the club are entitled to choose to terminate contracts on the very same grounds then. Though shockingly those against the vaccine who peddle the “individual choice” line don’t seem to appreciate the rights of clubs/ organisations/ companies to make the same choices they are making. Just look at the attempts to enforce vaccine take up in the NHS. As others have explained, yes it doesn’t mean you can’t catch it, but it means you are far less likely to suffer severe symptoms, and selfishly from a club perspective, face different rules regarding close contacts if you are or aren’t vaccinated.

Peddling stupid, easily disprovable information does make you uneducated, it’s … by definition. If I put 1+1=3 on an maths exam and fail, it doesn’t make me less uneducated if I insisted that the maths conspiracy is suppressing the truth and 1+1 definitely equals 3. The only difference with vaccine “science” is that they never get to the point of studying and taking the exam in the first place.

It will from the NRL though which is what I believe he was pushing for last year. Sadly talent is still too thin on the ground in this country for clubs to pick and choose, bar a handful of “big” clubs (even then, they can get selective about their principles when it suits them - look at Hetheringtons comments on Todd Carney/ Robert Lui). If my club (Saints) came out and announced a double vaccinated only policy for recruitment I would categorically support that, even if it means on missing out on some talent, but I appreciate few clubs are in the position we are in to make such an announcement…

Sorry mate but those figures dont add up. 30 man squads thats 15 players at 50% does equal anywhere near 1/5th of Super League unvaccinated.

Not everyone who peddle the "individual choice" line are against the vaccine. Im not for one. Im vaccinated but i arent going to berate people who arent. Its not law that people have to be. Its their choice. I dont understand why they wouldnt get jabbed but thats their decision.

Not sure how clubs can terminate contracts on the basis of not getting vaccinated. Like i say its not a legal requirement.

Trueman will have people chasing him in SL and possibly NRL. Hes a quality young half and there is a shortage of quality pivots in the game.
