It's silly season in Aus. Every half decent Aussie in SL will be linked with a move back to the NRL.

Aussie journos are some of the worst it’s true; however the particular article about Merrin was quite specific. We’ll see. Merrin wasn’t 100% convinced coming over in the first place as he thought he had NRL life left in him IMO.

My guess is if the money is right he’d rather stay and play in Aus.

Tbf, if Trent decides he’s going to put his family first after this absolute Annus horribilis i wouldn’t blame him.

The stuff this man has had to deal with off the pitch as well as the crushing expectations on it are mind blowing.

I’m easy either way. On one hand he is the current captain and he is a quality player.

On the other he’s overweight and isn’t an impact middle; neither has he much pace, and we’ve looked slow in recent years. His discipline has also been poor at times.

I was just never convinced he was the right position player we needed. The club needed to sign at least half a name and fill marquee spots at the time to keep fans happy.

Due to Ward’s injury and Ablett/JJB’s wheels falling off, it worked but with Martin in, Mellor coming and Walters and Trout (maybe Mustapha) in the wings I can live with our back row options. Cuthbo could do a similar job to Merrin at a pinch too.

Merrin is around 22.7 billion times better than Adam Cuthbertson. Cuthbertson is done. We need to do all we can to try get him off our cap

Better yes, but VFM not so sure. Wheels are half off Cuthbo too although he looked something like again for the last month or two this season.

If Merrin does leave I wonder who becomes captain.

Hopefully we can begin pre season with a few more pieces in place.

I agree with that, not fussed either way. To say he was far too good for us is wrong. Ava had more impact in half a season than Merrin imo.

Couldn’t agree more. Sad to see him go if it happens, as he was by absolutely Miles our best player last season, but to be fair to the man, he stuck by us in the season despite what he had going on in Aus, and playing for an embarrassment of a team here trying to fix it.

Merrin just announced on social media that they're expecting first child. Congratulations to them both. I wonder though if his GF will want to move back to aus on back of this... is this the family issue? Maybe reading too much into it
