Let's get a little perspective here.
We don't have the best squad in the division by far. Its reasonable to say Leeds and Leicester probably have the strongest or the ones with the most potential but they're not that far ahead of the others. We probably have the best forwards and the best midfield but defensively the squad isn't too strong.
Last night we had what is arguably our third choice left back, third choice right back, and of the (only) 3 centre halves at the club 2 are not fully fit and haven't been for a while, so we've had a 5' 9" 37 year old right back playing as an emergency centre half. Funnily enough we've conceded some daft goals, especially from set pieces. There's a surprise eh?
Last night we had over twice as many attempts on goal as Northampton. That's been the same in most matches.
We may like to delude ourselves that our players are far better than this division or that Leeds United have a divine right to go up. They're not and we don't.
