The player himself will be in breach of contract and the employer is within rights to pursue him regardless.

I haven’t seen the player contract but the club will be in the driving seat legally you would think. Which is why I think Nene has another club lined up bc they can bankroll any legal fees / compensation for him or pay a fee to Leeds to release him without further action.

As I understand it anyway.

We can and we should. Super League contracts are recognised by the NRL. I don't know why people think we should just give away a thing of value - his contract to us. He's not done the right thing legally or ethically and Leeds have every right to ask for compensation if/when he signs for an NRL club.

If we try to hold his registration even if it is backed by the NRL nobody wins. We would be down a quota spot being filled by an unavailable player. We would be trying to force a player to choose between club and family which is a battle we never going to win and any potential future overseas signings may think twice about considering Leeds. While the player has dealt with this the wrong way better to grant a release with legally binding conditiins should he sign for another Superleague club in the next 4 years.

You can’t restrict an employee’s right to earn a living but we could (and we will be) seeking some compensation for the breach of contract.

So Eseh rumoured to be going to Wigan or Saints - if we have missed out on a Leeds lad in a position we are desperate for better depth in, to the competitors over the hill after losing Walters to them too.. we’d better have a pretty good recruitment plan working out behind the scenes.

Exactly this if it was cut and dry all Nene in the wrong we would of heard noises of this however I believe there is some culpability elsewhere.

If you’ve ever bought a house or got divorced you’ll know that few legal procedures are cut and dried.

I don't think holding his registration has any impact on quota places or salary cap. He won't be one of the players Leeds name in their squad next year or be being paid but that doesn't mean he can go to another SL or NRL club without our agreement/that club compensating Leeds.

Such a shame because Nene is a phenomenal athlete at his best. But - we move on.

I’m so impatient to see who we are going to bring in. Haven’t enjoyed many of our performances this year.
