So with our 2023 season finally done !!!
Got a update on after tonight's great win into what a 2024 plans are looking like we obviously know that Lachie Miller, Matt Frawley & Mickael Goudemond are confirmed recruits for 2024 & beyond.
I was told Rowan Milnes didn't want to sign for us after our final offer to him was to be a back up half option and be 3rd choice after Frawley, another new Half we're trying to recruit, Milnes 3rd choice & Sinfield 4th choice.
We also offered Paul Mcshane a 1yr deal which he rejected because he is one of the top earners at Cas and we didn't want to match what he earns there. The reason for this offer was only to help mentor Jarred O'Connor & Corey Johnson which I think was a smart and tactical offer from Leeds as we would have got cap dispensation if we signed Mcshane as he was develop through our academy and was a England International so we would have been entitled to some sort of dispensation if Mcshane signed but nothing came of it.
No update on Nene Macdonald from the club but can't imagine anyway back for him now.
Luke Hooley to Cas is 99% done no dramas with that personally.
I was given some names as to who's on Rohan Smith shortlist for possible signings.
Brodie Croft, Sam Powell, Brenko Lee, Peter Mata'utia, Fa'amanu Brown, Luke Thompson, Charlie Staines, Jai Whitbread.
The club is still trying to land a big name halfback apparently Brodie Croft is our number 1 target.
Finally the club is exploring the option of making Harry Newman a marquee player for next season. This may shock a few with his antics in recent weeks and people in the media recently linking him with a move away from the club but how it was explained to me it sounds like the club know what there doing with this one. So from next year clubs are allowed 3 marquee players as long as 1 is NFT/ British so Newman current contract runs out at end of 2024 season so the club is gonna pay him big money but making him Marquee only 50k of his salary counts on cap but apparently the club is only going to see how many games Newman can get through in 2024 because as we all know his injury record to date is shocking so if he can show his injuries are behind him and he can consistently stay on the pitch hopefully conducting himself properly the club will make him Marquee long term, but if his injuries continue to plague him in 2024 the club won't look at renewing his deal and that could see him leave after 2024 so sounds like it's last chance saloon for Newman to fulfil his potential as a marquee Centre for Leeds.
