Having caught up with a bit of last nights SL, Lam did appear to deny this Croft rumour quite firmly. Whether it's true or not, the sun does not rise and set on Brodie Croft. He would be a great player to get, but in some ways I'd rather he stayed at Salford and we got a player as good, or better, from the NRL. Would certainly be a better outcome for the competition.

You've nailed it, that's the answer! Gary does run the RFL all along, these last few years have been about altruism and levelling the competition. He really needs to be applauded.

We’ve actually been moderately successful at getting the ball back with that tactic towards the back end of the season but don’t let that get in the way !

True!

If you think about it, if you practice competing and can get your odds to 50:50 ish, it’s not always a terrible play.

When it comes off you have a set of six starting around the opposition 40. That position is hard won from yardage. When it doesn’t work you’re defending the set from 60m out. Does depend on game situation and the ability to compete in the air of course…

Timing is everything, we rolled it out again when we were desperate and games were already gone, the early season 'revelatory tactic' was ditched early, because it was stupid especially given the teams limitations. The key rule being that it's not a shortcut for not doing the basic graft that leads to the territory and possession you want to acquire through the short kick offs. Sure take them but when they don't come off you better be bloody good at defending the yardage gained by your opponent. We were not.

I’m not against the tactic when used sparingly, but it does need a team very confident in their defence as like you say you’re inviting the opposition in if you don’t get the ball.

Yeah I’m not saying do it every set but if you can execute them it’s not terrible.

I see John Davidson saying Leigh have signed McNamara from Hull and Anthony Milford - so no Croft.

Sound of knickers being slowly untwisted…

It was widely reported they were in for Milford a couple of weeks ago. It would take more than that to untwist some of the knickers on this forum. They are so tightly ratcheted, so deeply lodged, that it would take a proctologist to retrieve them.
