McShane is an interesting one. Would he be a better player than O'Connor or Johnson next year? No question about it in my mind - better passing, defence just as good, better kicking and a far better rugby brain. He's also a leader. Will he be fit? He fractured his arm and missed the last half of the season, but he should be fit for preseason. Beyond that his fitness record for Cas is pretty exemplary and eclipses the vast majority of our forwards. Will he be cheap? Don't think so. You'd imagine that he his as close to a marquee player as Cas get. It wouldn't even surprise me if he was. He won't be coming to Leeds for anything less. However, if we make him marquee he's only 50k on the cap. Expensive yet cheap. On balance I think it would be a good short term signing and maybe a shrewd long term coaching acquisition.
