Yes I understand he's not best pleased.

Why would he be upset? He knew both Sezer & Austin would not be Leeds players next season. the club have only signed one half back. The reduced TV deal was announced in August but I would have thought most clubs were already aware that the deal would be less than the previous one. I would have thought that Smith would have provided a list of players that he would like to sign. Croft probably moved to the front of the list when his availability became known.

With Brodie Croft, If the stumbling block is Salford then that can be over come by Leeds.

If the stumbling block is Croft wants to stay at Salford or insists on NRL get out clauses then Leeds should walk away. We have in the past signed players who were not committed from the start and it has bitten us on the proverbial ass.

Agree, Croft is a decent player but if he doesn't want to be here then its a waste of time and cash.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see. Strategically the best time to announce the signing would be in conjunction with the new kit launch so if you leave aside our (fans) paranoia, that's probably what will happen.

I find it hard to believe the deal is not done when Leeds sent out Tweets starting with B R O D despite supporters recognising this as early as the R tweet. Would seem daft to tease your own fans with a player you have not signed.

Let all the doubters keep doubting and those who believe keep believing.

We’re only interested in those in the bubble. Anyone who wants to come in the bubble, you can come in.

But you’ve got to keep believing.

Who says there is a stumbling block?

Re: Transfer Talk / Rumour thread V4 : Mon Oct 09, 2023 1:11 pm
I would guess the issue is around the get out clause as pect of the deal. If reports from Australia are correct this was set at $150k or 78k sterling which from Leeds perspective it would be financially imprudent to pay over 200k for a player who could walk away in 12 months time for 78k if the clause inserted in a new contract is the same. It's a difficult one for Leeds and Croft. Why would we risk such a large financial hit so would want a higher release fee and on Crofts side at the current release fee no NRL club has been willing to pay it despite him winning man of steel and a shortage of half backs in the NRL.
The compromise would be high release clause in first 2 year of the contract reducing to current level in year 3 when he will still only be 28. Arguably his value as a potential NRL option would increase in a successful well funded Leeds team compared to an underfunded Salford one. Think this one has a bit to run yet.

Actually, he doesn't even say that there is a stumbling block, he tries to explain that there might be a stumbling block. I might be totally wrong but it does seem like an attempt to give "legs" to a story. Leeds, at least in terms of fanbase, are the biggest club in SL, and as a journalist we are very much on Shaw's beat. I think he's anticipating that fans desire to know "now" and also making a story out of a non story. Certainly got us talking.
