It would be ironic if the deal Salford put in place (7 years) presumably to safeguard their interest forces them into bankruptcy should Croft decide to stay.
Like you say 7 year deals are ridiculous.
If we do sign him one would hope we attach a buy out clause of 200k first year dropping by 50k for each subsequent year maybe.

Ultimately everybody will have to settle for a little bit less than they actually want. The mark of a good compromise.

It's not how much talent you've got, it's what you do with it that counts.

Whilst it wouldn’t help us much in this case, I’ve long since thought that transfer fees should be the wages remaining to complete the contract. If someone is paid £200k per year and have a 4 year deal, the fee should be £800k.

Seems fair as that’s presumably what it would cost to replace the player.

If we pay £200k for Croft and insert a minimum £100k fee if he wants out , that seems fine to me. We may lose out if as barmy army says , he just walks out.

However, we have spent £600k on 3 years for Tetevano, so the Croft “risk” looks worth taking to me as we at least know he can play well in SL.

We also paid Cas £175k fee for what ended up being 1 good season from Gale and a c cup win.

I don’t think Croft has much real power to stay at Salford if they need the money.

According to Peter Smith Leeds hopeful of getting deal done soon, they were still working on it as of Sunday.

Obviously thinking about a fee structure if he was sold on is important, but the most important thing is keeping him happy and playing good rugby in the first place.

I reckon players are far more likely to stick around if they are enjoying what they are doing and winning most of the time. That's how we should be guaranteeing getting the most of a signinig like Croft (if it is him who we manage to get).

Part of that formula is building a good team around him, which we seem to be doing, and putting the right coaching staff around that team to succeed. Jury is still out on that one for me, but I am feeling more optimistic about next season for now.

Absolutley and same goes for MOM who is moving from the other side of the world. Especially as they are moving over in their mid summer to our mid winter.... ( i believe they are getting wed first before coming over ). So important they are looked after and made to feel really positive about the move.

Yes agree.
I think the main reason players wish to return home early is because of their wives or partners.
The players can always go for a coffee or activity after training but if the wives have no social contact it's easy to understand why they want to go home to family.

Agree. Think Covid really stuck spanner in the works, but should be doing our upmost to really put an arm around the families of Frawley, Miller, Momirovski and hopefully Croft.

I did wonder whether the timing of the Momirovski announcement was a way of saying to Croft - look, we're going to be a different team to the mid-season dross of this year, other quality players are joining us, and you have a serious chance of winning silverware in the coming years if you sign up.
