Trouble is Johnson is a long way off being good enough for a starting 9 for a team that needs to be challenging for honours. He’s got a bright future no doubt but imo needs a good year on loan where he’s starting every week. He could still have a good future with Leeds but he needs patience and regular game time

Lots of Johnson fan boys in here and they have vested in him as the future, but he is not anywhere near as good as they think, and i’m not saying this for a dig at them, but he had an extended run this season after Leeming left and failed to usurp a younger player who had only played the position for a few months. OConnor us younger and us contacted until 2025, Johnson out of contract next season, suspect the club will say happy for you to look elsewhere for 2024 or be 3rd choice. He may choose to fight for a place.

I agree about johnson but he is much more a natural fit.

We have struggled at hooker for years, how many have we had over the last 5-6 years?.. the last 10 or so?.

Johnson could be a long term fit for a change but the two year gap is showing as mentioned. JoC isn't a hooker and has poor distribution but still got more time because of his strong defence and work rate.

CJ needs a year on loan so we can see how he goes ( if we sign another hooker) or to be playing more minutes next year of we don't.

I'd hate to see another hooker leave and it bite us

Take your point, but if O'Connor isn't a hooker then he isn't really anything in the modern game. Although Johnson has some virtues to his game, his defence in the middle of the field is very average. That’s the conundrum, how long do you wait for these lads to develop/catch up? The answer is - when there is a better option in his prime available, you don't. If Corey or even O'Connor wants to move on as a result you just have to live with it.

One doesn’t have to go but you’d imagine one of either oconner or Johnson would want to go where they might get more opportunities

The other issue for both is that neither offer any point of difference as a bench hooker.
