Pretty much this though I wouldn't be too fussed if he was left to sweat for a week or two.

| I'm not a GH fan whatsoever but fwiw I think his stance is correct in we owe James no favours at all he's done us none so bo77ocks to him. Let him sweat until season starts.
One thing I do admire in GH is nobody takes the biscuit with him!

| GH is a shrewd operator and will be waiting for Cronulla to offer the same fee as the undisclosed fee we've just paid Manly for Parcell so effectively getting the new hooker for free and possibly/probably on less wages than Segeyaro as well?

| If this was someone trying to walk away mid-contract, I'd probably agree with GH, but the fact he wanted to change his mind just weeks after signing makes this a completely different scenario.
I've a lot of time for him and am one of those who thinks he gets little wrong in the grand scheme of things, but I think GH is making himself look an idiot taking this stance and so publicly. Would have been a much better message to just say 'Our club is bigger than any one player, and if James doesn't want to be here, then that's his loss and we'll let him go with our best wishes'.
I get the feeling GH is trying to use this situation to build some sort of public reputation, maybe trying to regain some credit after what has been a dismal 12 months.
Move on, we're better than this!
(P.s I still fully expect Segeyaro to be named a Cronulla player for an undisclosed fee in probably the first week of January)

From GH's point of view there probably is a bit of 'he needs a win' in terms of this issue pans out but I still think it's the right thing to do to get a fee. No reason to just let him go for free and his public statement today reminds me of last year with Ferres, we knew he wanted to come here and we let Hudds know we weren't going to be fussed if they played hardball. This year let Cronulla know they have to cough up something even if it's in the region of £50-100k.

| Can't understand why anyone thinks that Hetherington's stance on Segeyaro is wrong. We had a class player in a key position who committed himself to the club. All of a sudden, Segeyaro gets his head turned by Cronulla then makes up a pile of rubbish to try get away from the club. GH has the opportunity to fire a warning shot to any player who thinks that their contract isn't worth the paper it's written on. Hold his registration for 2 years and forget about him.

Agreed. I'm with you 100%. I hope GH makes him sit down for at least a season.

Exactly, I would understand if there was some change in circumstance that made him change his mind, but it seems like he spent his time down under feeling out whether any NRL club would want, which is especially disrespectful given we gave him extra time off to supposedly spend with his family, which he actually spent with Wade Graham and his agent.
At the very least I would expect us to get back whatever we have paid for parcell, as that is a clearly provable loss of funds as a direct result of Segeyaro breaking contract. We should have paid a massive fee for Clarke and used the same argument.
Much like Cas with Solomona, we need to remain firm, luckily for us the NRL (unlike the RFU) care about the integrity of sporting contracts.

| Either contracts are worth something or they aren't, Rhinos have a demonstrable loss so they should sue. It's business not the playground and there are consequences to actions and only getting the naughty step isn't one of them!

Spot on especially the first sentence. The person leading the way in saying it's wrong of GH is a poster who thinks GH does everything wrong and so should be taken with that in mind.
If Leeds were the club a player was holding out hoping to join and we were waiting around for him to be released and thus hoping to not have to pay any fee then he'd be the first to say how wrong it was of the Leeds club to not offer any money for a talented player.

| It would be fair enough if Segeyaro just told the truth. The fact is he didn't live alone "staring at four walls" he lived with Delaney. He signed a new deal. No way was he homesick. He goes back to Oz to be with his family, yet ends up living with Wade Graham and his agent. If he'd just admitted that Cronulla wanted him, and he wanted to go, then fair enough. It's the cock and bull story that annoys me.
