I didnt go, does that prevent me from having an opinion on expecting a closer scoreline when looking at the 2 teamsheets?

But reading further, i see we were trying the short cuts again, so maybe explains the scoreline being a bit wider than i expected.

Who's Said yesterdays scoreline will have a bearing on the season? I haven't, did you quote the wrong post?

I didn’t say you can’t have an opinion, but if uou e formed it just by looking at the scoreline it’s unlikely to be a fair opinion on what actually happened.

For example I'm presuming you mean taking shortcuts is referring to short kick offs, we did 3, and one was in the last seconds of the game.

Not sure that counts as taking shortcuts, especially on a ridiculously small pitch.

The score was so wide because it was largely a bunch of kids playing against a first choice Bradford team.

There were some good signs, especially Jack Smith and Fergud McCormack, who was the best player on the field when he was on.

Bradford just had far too much size and experience

Absolutely not mate! They need to kick the ball into corners and practice applying pressure from those kick offs and restricting yardage. I've not heard a valid argument for chucking the usual flow of the game in favour of practicing short kick offs. (I'll shut up now!)

Which is what we did for the majority of the kick offs.

Thing is, even when the kick is executed well (wasn't there yesterday but on Boxing Day they were) the ball tends to hit the floor and then anything can happen. As others have said, it should be saved for moments of desperation, and certainly not used as regular practice. If I was Rohan I'd be avoiding tactics that are most certainly going to irritate fans who saw the same approach flounder last year. He needs people on his side at the start of the season.

I don't disagree. You make a good point about sentiment actually; RS may need the speccies on-side at times when results might not go our way and the short kick-offs appear risky.

Having said that there are plenty of knives already sharpened so what has he got to lose really?

Honestly think there were much bigger factors of concern for us last year than short kick-offs but I get why some hate it. Statistically I can see why RS tries it.

Yep just seen the highlights and the Bradford side looked way bigger and stronger man-for-man. Most of the Leeds commentators seemed to think we got something out of it so crack on.

It's hard to balance pre-season; play too many and you can risk injury to senior players we can't afford to lose, play too few and you can lack cohesion. At the end of the day if the players are good enough they should be able to win matches.

I formed it by looking at the teamsheets, expecting a loss but a lot closer one than we got, nothing really needed more than that, i expected it to be closer.

Part of that is expecting the experienced players we did have playing: Oledzki, OConnor, Sangare, Donaldson, Olpherts and players like Sinfield, Roberts, Johnson...First 17 or an injury away from first 17 players, with plenty of Super League/Championship experience between them, to be among the best players on the pitch and carry the youngsters through somewhat, but it dosnt sound like that happened.

Im not really going to get into a big debate over a pre season friendly. The experienced players were being swapped out quite a lot, and the inexperienced players were very inexperienced. Especially in the second half.

Bradford have also built a pretty good side, theyll be up there at the top in the Championship this season.

Just watched the highlights, Oledzkis goal line D for two of the trys was poor to say the least, which is sort of the point i was making.

But agreed 100%, a big debate isnt really necessary, its ok to have differing expectations

He is an Adonis but there was no way he was going to stop the first one, got himself sideways against one of their big men at full belt.

Hope big Mik has a good year this year but ideally we'll see more of a stint from him against KR.

The positioning is the problem with the first, dosnt identify the play early enough, the second is just weak

Gosh you’re in a harsh mood mate! He shouldn’t be risking injury trying to stop a try to Bradford in a friendly to be fair.

Honestly I don’t think Mik has too much to prove, he just needs a run of games in a side playing well.

I think Ackers will prove a very astute signing for us this year. I also have a sneaky feeling that Momirovski could surprise a few; he’s probably the most first-gradey of all the NRL imports and it’s ultra competitive in the backs over there; can’t see him being a mug Kiss of death now.
