No, it's either been used in a homophobic way and used as a form of prejudice which seems unlikely and without evidence, or he's said it as a throw away comment which can not be construed as homophobic and therefore is a storm in a teacup. If we can prove unequivocally that he's used it as a form of abuse, then I agree he should be adequately punished.

Sounds to me like most on here want to make an example of someone for the increasing foul language in the game and who better than one of the top performers of the season so far? Don't we just hate winners in this country!

I bet there's primary school children laughing at the way some on here are lauding about being so precious! After all, don't they get taught the old 'sticks and stones...'?

as I've said - if he said it as a throw away comment that needs addressing also because that shows ignorance.
as for your comments about school- if one of my pupils made such a comment the comment would be taken seriously - it would be dealt with and NOT laughed off.
the LA school policy states that special record will be made of any behaviour involving level 3 incidents. Level 3 are classed as most severe.
Homophobia is number one on the list.
