We're also limited by who is available and who we can let go. Another legacy of the recent past is offering contracts that are way too long. McDonnell and Sangare are both on two years, which seems a better way to go. I'd also rather focus on the future rather than rush to sign anyone for this season.

I reckon we'll be looking to bring in a big bopper prop regardless of who else is in the squad. Even if Prior and Tet stay we'll be looking at a lot of changes for 2024.

Can picture Leeds after Leutele as the potential left centre for next year? The prevous signings for us with overseas players in particular come via the same NRL agent - Ava / Rhyse M / Sezer and also Zak Hardaker.

Because someone like Leutele is class , has a few more years at the top, can help bring through the younger centres by time he retires…..

He might bet better than Sutcliffe but I don't see signing someone who'll be 33 near the start of next season as a step forward in rebuilding. We've already got enough over 30s that will need to be replaced in the near future without adding another one.

Ultimately I suppose you have to do it on a case by case basis. Previous injury record, current form and the age and potential of players coming through would be the key factors. Not sure what his injury record and form are like, but I would say both Simpson and Edwards are two years from playing consistently at SL level.

Isn’t smith on record as saying we are short of middle of the road players age wise, meaning 24/25/26/27 and therefore perhaps he’s lean towards those sorts than another veteran. I can’t remember which recent interview that was in, I think it was when someone asked him about Aydin.

Alright everyone. So I had a catch up with my mate. The Thompson deal was very close but the Bulldogs were being difficult, he wanted the move with the possibility of a permanent one, still could happen for 2023 onwards. McDonnell is very highly thought of by Smith hence the signing. We tried for Mulhern but the Wire were being greedy so we backed out. No news on Sutcliffe leaving but we are definitely in for Leutele. Hardaker new deal being announced imminently.
