Proctor and segeyaro?! FFS are we aiming to go up or down the table, sound like haunting signings from Agars past.

IMO we shouldn’t be signing anybody who is 32/33 unless they are a prop who we can get a couple of years out of until we develop or can find a younger alternative. We are desperate for props, I wouldn’t say we are desperate for a hooker, a centre or even a back rower.
Just because somebody has been good, is a known name doesn’t mean they will come in and light up super league. Look at the best overseas players from the last couple of years they are not early 30s big names. They are normally younger, sometimes with something to prove and if we are looking overseas those are exactly the types of players we should be looking for.

I'm with you lp - Leutele is just as unambitious a signing as Segeyaro, and in a position that we don't need unless its a real star. Leutele will be 33 in April and plays in a position where speed and strength are a massive part of the game, and he'll definitely be on the downward spiral in terms of physicality. Players that age who still do well tend to be in positions where athleticism isn't quite as important, like halfback or even props where they still have size and can keep a good standard through hard work. Keith Senior played to that age but was less effective and with hindsight probably played a year or so too long.

We don’t need Proctor. We obviously wont be signing Segayaro either. But I just think he was one of the best players I’ve seen at Leeds, and it was such a shame he never came back. The comment was more lamentable than realistic…..

This self imposed age restriction would be ridiculous, Jamie Peacock was still ripping it up in Super League at 36. Players can be at their best at 32, why would we rule them out and not consider them.

Because its ridiculous if we're serious about building for the future.

How many outside backs are any good at 33? Peacock was a different animal altogether - incredibly motivated and looked after himself and playing in a position where sheer effort makes a lot of difference. He was also already with us aged 33, and wasn't the same player in 2015 he had been previously though. McGuire was excellent in 2017 but not through athleticism but through smarts, and he'd slowed enormously compared to his younger self. An outside back needs to be athletically right up there.

I think its bonkers to even think of signing an outside back of that age. At some point age catches up with everyone, and an outside back can't make up for it by guile or just working hard. Lack of speed and loss of power will just make them duff players.

I wouldn't categorically rule out signing players over 30, but they would only get a year at a time.

I did qualify that but saying prop would be the only position I would consider above that ago, guess what position JP was! I have no issue with older players, just feel that signing somebody mid 20’s and keeping them for 6-7 years is a much better plan that splashing cash on a 32/33 year old who realistically is going downwards.

People like to have these sort of preconceptions and barriers. If a players still good enough then I’d be happy to sign. I look at on Field performance before age. Just look at Hally and Kallum. Still ripping it up

Watkins has been going well, but this is a player who is naturally one of the most talented outside backs (English) that has played in super league. He played centre for England and is playing back row for Salford. I think that says a lot about the quality of English centres to be honest. I have put the stats below because I think we fundamentally disagree about ripping it up actually means. The stats also have the leader and martins stats given he plays back row for us.

MATCH STATS for Kallum Watkins according to super league website.
