pick up the phone and call England. bring back Danny Buderus : Sun Jul 05, 2009 2:36 am
I HAD my say last week on the Blues' performance in OriginII in Sydney.
But how do we fix it? If I were still NSW coach, the first thing I would do is pick up the phone and call England. And bring back Danny Buderus. We need a leader to teach our young blokes about Origin - and Queensland did the same thing with Alfie Langer. For that reason, I would also play Brett Kimmorley and Trent Barrett in the halves. Then I would move Jarryd Hayne to fullback and play Kurt Gidley off the bench. My starting front-row would be Willie Mason and Mark O'Meley. I'd also include Nathan Hindmasrh and Craig Fitzgibbon, tough blokes who won't let you down. While I maintain Suncorp Stadium is no place for Origin rookies, I would blood three new players - Canberra's never-say-die skipper Alan Tongue, the Bulldogs' try-scoring machine Josh Morris and workaholic Cronulla prop Luke Douglas. If the future of State of Origin was riding on NSW winning in Brisbane, against one of the greatest Queensland teams of all-time, these are the players I would be taking into battle with me, starting with Bedsy. That often uncomfortable settling-in period early on in every Origin camp would be erased. It would be about teaching the younger players what the NSW jumper means. A bloke like Buderus typifies what the Blues are lacking. He could come back and teach the young blokes about Origin. http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/s ... 07,00.html |
