I know that Smithies was our number one target at the time, I posted this other year. That was why they set up with Siddall and Scrimshaw as coach. They got Holroyd who was also the massive target, but Wigan were a bigger pull for Smithies. Don’t know about the others.

Last year we missed out to Wigan on Longstaff, who was also a high priority target. That was the reason they pulled out all the stops to change Joe Burtons mind, which was quite an excellent signing.

Morgan Smithies is a fantastic talent and I don't normally big kids up as I know it's a funny old game and a lot changes but I tip him to be England Captain one day.

Waites I believe was always a Wigan fan. Like Borough as he's a great hooker.

You got a good lad in Tom Holdroyd though, another one with a bright future.

I've also watched Corey Johnson and Harvey Spence as I coached a Hull team in same age group. Both very good players.

And I've seen talk about that Siddall team, best ever youth team I have seen in my time in game.

Missed last nights game but Trout has been consistently outstanding he must be close to the 1st team now.

Newman's footwork is very reminiscent of Martin Gleeson.

Newman is bulking up.....and still keeping his mobility. At 18 yrs he’s looking like he could be a real Centre option for the next decade plus.

Trouts been fantastic all season, he couldnt be coming along at a better time either with the age and contract status of our first team backrowers. The cherry on top is thathat he's exactly the type of backrower the first team needs....A big, athletic, linebreaking one.

You can see the progress week-on-week at Fev. Some Fev fans have started making comparisons to Paul Newlove, which is a bit premature - Newlove was freakishly strong from an early age - but he's a very exciting prospect.

He's also a rare good advertisement for the merits of Dual Registration. Hardly anyone likes DR (including me), but the agreement between Leeds and Fev does actually seem mutually beneficial for both teams. Newman is definitely ready to play against men, but not quite ready to start for a good SL team yet (2019 might be a different story), and it's surely better for his development to be playing for a competitive Championship team, and at his proper position (ie centre) against the likes of Toronto, Batley etc than making hay at U19 level (I understand why he's played there this weekend of course ie Fev are playing in the CC).

Agree with all of this, the point you make about playing in his proper position is key imo. I hate to see exciting young centres getting there first team chance on the wing,, the jump up in standard is hard enough without playing out of position, especially with the way the game is today. Teams work so much on there attacking kicking games that even seasoned, international wingers struggle with it, never mind a young Centre, putting them under high balls defensively is a quick way to shatter a lads confidence. Great to see Newman doing so well at fev, fantastic talent.

Think it would be way too early for 1st team. Not convinced he will ever be at that level to be honest but he's played well I agree.
