I quite like the idea of Tony Smith as well. I'd prefer him to Shaun Wane, as I'm not sure Wane's recipe would work at Leeds given it probably hinged a lot on pride of playing for Wigan. The other reason I'd quite like Smith is because I genuinely feel he adds to the sport and its a shame he isn't already coaching somebody.

God help us if Richard Agar has the reins until the end of the season. I’d rather have Wane and that’s saying something...

I only had the argument last week that relegation is not something going to happen, simply because I had every confidence Furner would do enough to pull us well clear of London and Hull KR. Without a coach, and Agar as interim, that confidence is seriously dented, and could really move the goalposts.

If we go English how about Paul Anderson. He has a point to prove and no one can say that the squad is poor it’s just that they aren’t playing like a team. Anderson did a lot at Huddersfield with limited talent available

It does look like Agar could get the stint until the end of the season.
Maybe that`s because our preferred choice needs to see the season out where he currently coaches.
I don`t see Wane fitting in well with the likes of GH and would want to do his own thing like Furner wanted.
The trouble I have with coaches such as Marshall is their ability to gain the respect of so called better or should I say perceived better well known players from SL.
Leeds United have fallen foul of this many times.
If we are looking for a British coach mainly because they might be cheaper then Chris Chester certainly tops my list.

And that is exactly why we are where we are. Anderson is worse than the previous two, and way way way down a list of coaches available. More importantly though is the comment about the squad, it is poor, lets get real on this.

I dont think we can afford to wait till the end of season to make an appointment. Any recruitment for next year needs to be happening now and the new head coach needs to be crucial in identifying targets.

If we see out the year with Agar at the helm we are effectively writing off next year too.

Time for Leeds legend Francis Cummins to get the job hopefully.

And therein might lie another problem? Furner might have been identifying and/or speaking to potential new NRL recruits for next year and some discussions/negotiations may have gone pretty advanced? Are such targets/potential targets still going to want to come now the coach that has possibly been sharing his vision for them and the club going forward has suddenly gone?

What a sorry mess this all is isn't it. I still stand by the stance that Furner should have been backed and given the opportunity to bring in his own players this summer and weed out lots of the dead wood. With the squad we have its been clear since the first few games that silverware is off the table and it's also now clear we won't be relegated.

By pulling the trigger now it suggests that the powers that be believe we are a top club and should be way above way we are. That for me is very poor judgement and sets up any coach taking the reigns from here for a similar fate. The squad by and large is bottom third of the league fodder and it will be very difficult for anyone to come in right now and start stringing the wins together. Added to that they will need to bed in; take a look at who they want and don't and all the while we get beaten to all the best OOC players again and left with the scraps as usual.

It's not going to be a quick fix. Whoever comes in is going to need a bit of time. This action has shown they are not going to get it.Gentlemen welcome to the 1980's.
