I know I'll be shot down for this, but I wouldn't offer any player a 5 year deal. Three years is a long contract for me, 4 if you absolutely have to. Five? Nope.

Given what happened with Watkins and other players tied into long-term deals (e.g. Golding) you'd think they'd have learned from that. On the other hand this has been standard practice in the past when dealing with promising young players, and has served us well in the past.

I think the club has done this so we either get 5 good years or 3 and a nice paycheck to be fair

Overall I'm happy. He's clearly going to take up our homegrown star place in the squad.

A five year deal is long, but for someone the club believes is the future it's showing commitment from the club.

Plenty of improvement still to come im sure

I'm happy with this, I think we do forget how young Jack is sometimes. I think it's clear intent (along with the signing of Mellor) of where Sinfield wants to take this team, we have some very promising youngsters who we can build a team around, if we can keep hold of Merrin and get a few more class experienced players we will have the basis of a strong team. If and its a big IF we can get Hastings, who himself is only young we will be looking a lot better, however Wigan have a big announcement today apparently and I'll be gutted if it's the signing of Hastings.
