Sts work to get him the ball in those situations. Its not just about stopping the winger.

He’s also the top meter maker in Super League

Brilliant

He’s the leagues top metre maker. I imagine he is top for wingers in busts and breaks.

His defence is brilliant. He’s impeccable under the high bomb. He’s a remarkable finisher.

Not bad for a one trick pony.

If his only trick is to be better than every other winger in the competition then he is a one trick pony.

Fantastic player.

Good player but not in offiahs league nor robinsons imo.
If the rules re the corner flag were the same then then the old days wingers would have done the same?

Really? I don’t remember the old days wingers doing anything remotely similar despite the fact half the time players don’t take out the corner flag anyway.

He’s just as good as Offiah or Robinson in my opinion. I don’t quite know what he’d (or any other player) have to do to be as good them if he’s not.

In the old days speed was enough to make a great winger. If Kevin Penny was around in the 1980’s he’d be talked about as a great today.

That’s not taking away from Offiah or Robinson, but Makinson is the complete player that they weren’t, neither of those could make the yardage, catch the kicks, finish in the corner or defend like Makinson does, such as the tackle on England’s try line against the charging 17st back rower Kevin Proctor.

Kevin Penny wouldn't have been a great in any era.

Yes agree mate; people tend to focus only on the glory moments of players going forward. Offiah was terrible in D. One of the greatest ever weapons in attack but certainly not the complete player.

Hall has certainly been one of our best wingers, although again not great in D sometimes. I can't think of that many others really: Scott Donald and Marcus Bai come to mind, but then we're into Rivett, Pratt, Bentley, Fallon, Cummins, Briscoe territory who were all a step below IMO.

Anybody who thinks Makinson is even close to being in the same league as Offiah need some serious help. Maybe he was crap in defence and not a complete player, but he didn’t need to be he was the most potent attacking winger the game has ever seen, and I hated him, buts that’s because he was so deadly and feared him ever time the ball went near him. Searing pace body swerve and a very sharp instinctive Rugby brain.

There's not much point comparing players from different eras except in how dominant they were/are. Brian Bevan would be hopeless today. Offiah would be a different player now as would Makinson if he played in the 80s.

Offiah at his peak was light years ahead of any British wingers at the same time. Makinson is nowhere near as dominant.
