It's not how much talent you've got, it's what you do with it that counts.

I think you mean, at least he managed to replicate the form of the bottom team in SL as we are no further in front of them now than we were when he took over. This is why people are less than excited about announcing him as permanent.

Nothing in his CV says he should be permanent Head Coach at Leeds.

Looks like they are not expecting to get anyone (or many) out without their contracts expiring so they took the easy option of continuing with Agar until they can get some new players in for 2021.

Can't see this endearing them to the occasional visitor to Headingley or as a mechanism for convincing many wavering Season Ticket holders.

This is bad news financially speaking.

Or, you know, he might work out and the team might start improving next year.

I don't give a monkeys about his CV, I care about what he can do for us next season and I'll judge him on that.

I can only assume you're right fgb. We've appointed a coach who was no longer even trying to be a coach because no one would hire him based on his record.

I think we've gone that way because of two things.

First, over reading how 'well' he's done this year.

Second we're gun shy because of Furner.

None of these stand any real scrutiny. His record this season is nothing at all to jump up about. 5th in a table where half the teams suck completely, with three new signings? Sorry for not praising the messiah. I reckon quite a few coaches would have done at least as well.

As for Furner? Yes he was terrible but that says more about the people who hired him than anything else. If you sign a supposed star and they don't work out do you then sign numpties because of it? No, you try to do better with the next one. Ditto coach.

I hope Agar proves me wrong, but his appointment is gutless IMO.

Overall bad news, don't expect him to be here at the end of next season because he wont last the season, there must be method in their madness. Will it hit them financially?? yes it will. Three poor years out of the last four seasons and no one can convince me that we have turned the corner.
All I can think of saying is that whichever way we look at it maybe after the Furner issue no Australian wants the role, that we are limited with a low choice of top class English coaches and with having to pay off Furner maybe Agar is all we can afford, he is the cheap option. Lets hope we end up with a solid number 2.

All we need is to re sign Ferries and the jobs done.

I get all the comparisons to the early 2000s but I'd say a better comparison is 97 when GH came in. We had a team full of rubbish and signing Harris and then Murray as coach turned it around.

I will also judge him on next season, but I'll judge those who appoint him based on his qualifications for being Leeds coach in the first place. They (GH and KS) have together got a lot wrong in the last few years in terms of judgement, I sincerely hope this isn't another case of that in a year's time.

At best I see it that we will tread water for a year, waiting for some more players to go off contract, and hoping that we can integrate some more promising kids, but the difficulty is that integrating kids into a poorly playing team (like we have had this year) is a very hard task.

I say we showed some positive signs of progress under Agar this season. People have their agendas and beliefs and that's fine, time will tell who's right and wrong - but in absolute performance terms our defence is improved and our attitude is improved IMO. Those are the kinds of attributes you can build on.

If Agar doesn't step the team up next year, he won't last the course and someone else will be brought in. If he does, great.

We are in a period of major squad rebuilding, it's only really 12 months since McDermott left.

We'll be paying the price for p-poor decision making in recruitment over the past several years (and lack of junior development) for another year or two yet.

Agree with all the above.
