Marquee players

What is everyone's view of our marquee signings now our season is done?

We have been wanting the club to loosen the purse strings but for me I'm not sure we have got great value.

Merrin is a steadying influence now he has adjusted to the refing and the team do certainly miss him when he is off the field. I don't think he has been quite the player I was expecting though as I was expecting more busts, some well placed offloads and a bit more guile.

Hurrell has grabbed more headlines and while a good battering ram there is more to his attacking game than just that. I have been disappointed with his defence and ball retention though. He is often caught in no man's land defensively.

Not to say they are bad players, and you must take account they have moved half way round the world to a club in transition (read: playing crap) but don't think they have proved great value so far.

I will be looking for them to push on next season, just like everyone else needs too.

I think Merrin has been very under rated tbh for me he's been top quality & is the Captain we need.
Ive loved watching Konnie but agree seeing the same errors are very frustrating but imo he's gained us more than he's lost us over the year.
I think both will kick on next year the squad is certainly better & more together than when they arrived & although im not an Agar fan they'll go into pre-season more settled.

Hurrell is horrific defensively, seems to pick up a knock in every tackle and drops one in every two balls. He could also do with losing some weight.

When fully fit and having a good game, he is a class above but this is not very often. Personally, I would not be too bothered if he left given he is a marque player. You could sign a far more consistent player for far less.

Hurrell shouldn’t be marquee, not worth it. Spend on that sort of money on bigger priority’s.

I agree that Merrin's work often goes unnoticed by fans and I would have loved to have seen him playing for us whilst we had JP,Kylie and Delaney doing the grubby tough stuff that has had to do this season as he would have been sensational in our successful sides

Merrin would have been my choice for our clubs player of the year award

He will be far more dynamic for us next season IMO especially if we sign another quality prop and he can then play his preferred role at 13 each week.
Merrin,Martin and Ward looks as good a back row as any clubs in SL IMO

Anyone who has watched Hurrell in the NRL over the years knew what we were signing
With a good game manager in the side next season he will score plenty of tries and he will also make Handley look like a world beater again
He will also make plenty of Brain Fart moments by dropping the ball whilst uncontested and he will also still charge out of the defensive line leaving gaps for runners to run through at will,That's why he's over here I guess

Regarding being Marquee quality players:
IMO Merrin could slot back into the NRL and be very successful,I will be surprised if clubs don't come back in for him yet again this off season.
IMO Hurrell has found his level in SL and I can't see any NRL clubs coming in for him, so he will see his career out over here

Hurrell can score from absolutely nothing even when he’s playing injured, he’s exactly what a marquee player should be

Merrin - very very good IMO

Hurrell - frustrating as hell with his errors but very entertaining to watch and I’m glad we signed him
