It’s an odd one isn’t it.....if we are going to bring in an overseas utility for example...who do we let go from our current quota list?
I’d definitely be wanting to retain King and I’d like Martin to stay as well.
The enigma is Konnie as on his day, a bit like last Friday he is definitely worth an extension but this season in particular, possibly due to injuries, his form has been up and down, particularly in defence.
Konnie isn’t worth a new marquee contract but I’d be tempted to keep him?
Given all the forwards we have now, the one overseas who I’d say would be vulnerable IF out of contract would be Thompson, but he’s not.
Be interesting to see what happens with our out of contract quota players.
On another issue would people be willing/wanting to use up a valuable quota spot on a utility player?
For me your overseas backs have to be in the starting 13 every week to justify taking up a quota spot and therefore have to be first choice in one position at least?
If we take Austin for example, no way is he going to be first choice winger and Myler seems to have full back sewn up and we have Walker to come back (if his body is up to it) At the moment, unless there is any substance to the Gale rumour then there is also no way that Austin is first choice half next year, unless Gale is gone, which I doubt. (IMO I actually thing Austin and Sezer would work better as a combination than Gale & Sezer?)
So IF we are only losing one more overseas I don’t think it is wise to fill our quota up with Austin given I can’t see him being first choice in any position (unless Gale rumour has legs)
I personally wouldn’t want to be loosing two of Konnie, Martin and King but maybe that is what the club are planning?
