There certainly was. Still debatable any of our current squad would still get in though. Possibly Ward?

Depends if we’re talking squad or match day 17, and which year from 2004 - 2010

In that time frame...

Ward, Ava, Martin, Gale, Hurrell, Prior, Walker, Cuthbertson and probably a couple more would have got on both the squad and team at certain points in those 6 years

It's not how much talent you've got, it's what you do with it that counts.

Webb
Donald
Smith
Senior
Hall
McGuire
Burrow
Leuluai
Diskin
Peacock
JJB
Ellis
Sinfield

Bailey
Lauitiiti
Kirke
Ablett

Which of today’s players gets in that team? You could perhaps make a case for Hurrell or Ava on the bench (but he’s not played enough games for me yet).

Ward over Ablett, Hurrell over Smith, Ava over Kirke

But youve moved the goalposts slightly.

There's also a fair number of players from the 04-10 vintage that aren't in Batley's side that would still get picked ahead of their modern day counterparts.

Id rather look forward than back. No point harping on about old teams and players their time has been and gone.

Were still in transition but were heading in the right direction i feel.

For 75 - 0 you get sod all.

Wigan had eight in a row
Saints have five in a row

Perhaps, and we both know that there were poor performances from that era too, but the quality of player that we had then is far and away above those we have now. That so few of the current bunch are even talked about as possibles to replace the players of that era really makes my point.

I’d probably take Kirke above most of our other props at the moment...

Smith
Bailey
Kirke

I'd say Hurrell, Ava and prior would be in over them.

Also Hall in 2009 was probably about the similar level to Handley, albeit probably a bit better.

Id also probably take walker at his age over webb at his in 2009.

We’ve been very lucky to see the core of a great team lead us to winning an amazing haul of trophies, the succession plan lanning has been very poor but groups of players like we had don’t just come along all the time its hardly a shock that the multi grand final winning squad is better than the one we have now.
