My understanding is that players in Thompson situation are exempt from the quota for the length of their first contract. I think that was the case for Wellington Albert. If he is off quota and relatively cheap I would keep, if not it would be thanks but cheerio.
The contract with Toronto was extended for 2020, so he would be on quota if we resigned him. Would be disappointed if we resigned him, but there aren't many quality antipodeans available at present, aside from a couple of hookers, which we're covered for.
I think like many it depends on quota. He's not good enough to be on the quota, in itself that probably says he's not good enough to block the path of a junior.
“You are playing a game of football this afternoon but more than that you are playing for England, and more even than that, you are playing for right versus wrong. You will win because you have to win. Don’t forget that message from home. England expects every one of you to do his duty.”
Based on recent years, I would expect the cup win to be another "good excuse" not to see any real improvements in our squad. I hope I am wrong.
Covid has meant I have a lot more time, and a need to be distracted, so I have watched a lot more this year than I would have otherwise, looking at the quality of the squad this year and comparing it to one from 10 or 20 years ago is just making me feel really sad.
