Based on it being a tough sport if someone comes at you when your back his turned you have to protect yourself. He will be banned no doubt but can’t really blame him for protecting himself from what he saw at that moment.

That's not what you said though, you said it was punch or be punched, and there's zero evidence to support that assertion. Players chase players to remonstrate all the time, it's very rare that the player being chased just turns round and decks their opponent.

It's really easy to blame Mossop. Turning round and lamping someone isn't protecting yourself, it's attacking someone else. Other options he had include but are not limited to...pushing Hurrell away, fending him off, backing off himself, putting up some defences.

I'm really struggling to understand the desperate clamour to make out that Mossop has somehow been hard done to here, lots of people making out that he's the first player to ever be chased.

After the melee Leeds got the penalty with Hicks signalling a swinging arm punch in the original tackle. Arguably, if the officials had given that straight away then the ensuing ruckus may not have happened. This sort of thing has been going on for as long as I can remember, no penalty decision by the officials followed by a reaction from the players then the original incident gets penalised.
If Thompson gets a ban then Burgess should get at least the same, he came in on the blind side of the officials so wasn't as obvious but definitely ran in throwing punches.
As for Gale, okay maybe he shouldn't have reacted but after getting hit late so often with zero protection from the officials it wasn't that surprising. It was especially frustrating when Vuniyayawa got penalised twice for late hits the other way.

Watching it on the SuperLeague feed on YouTube I'm not even convinced that Bodene threw a punch, it looks more like a straight arm grab at Mossop who lands a punch on him, then Burgess does a couple of snidey punches himself.

Mik and Holroyd will be scary in a couple of years, they're not even fully grown yet.

In the round a good result this after the break from the Cas game.

We are looking something decent suddenly. Whether we get Lui, Williams or someone else in that right channel it has to help when we've got specialist halfs playing again.

Think there's a little bit of niggle in the tackle then if as they get up Mossop leans towards Hurrell with his head which is the point he sees red mist and the rest is history.

Reckon Thompson will get sending off sufficient but we'll be missing Gale for a game or two given he threw and landed 2 or 3 punches. Not exactly knockout blows but given how punching is a big no no now I'd expect a ban which will be a huge blow if Myler also misses a couple with that hand injury. We'll just have to play Prior in the halves since he's stepping all over the show and banging out 20 metres passes...

One thing that might help gale is that there doesn't appear to be any footage of what went on, from what I saw he was hit late then it looked like lannon gave him some afters and a bit of a knee to the head and Gale reacted, he certainly threw a fair few punches.

They will probably go on what the touch judge saw and reported to Hicks.
Lannon should have been penalised for the late hit but somehow Hicks missed it.
Thompson got sent off for running in but by rights will get a ban for the off the ball shot/push on the Salford player prior to the bust up.
Burgess like I said previously should also be banned.

No issues with Gale, he had been taking late shots throughout the game, Hicks saw the incident from the start he was running away from Gale but continued to watch him get hit, he got binned for 10 minutes, that enough punishment for Gale. Mossup, best punch since Mason hit Fielding in the test match. You cant have a Marque player on top money who gets floored with one punch, its so embarrassing.
Next up Leigh another team who know only how to play one way, that's with brute force. Leigh will fancy their chances having watched Salford try and knock six bells out of us. Thursday night is going to be very interesting
