Just bit of fun and reminiscing. Would like to hear people’s stories who have played the game.
I grew up looking down on the Old Fartown ground, from top of York avenue. Moved for HS and ended up playing for Salendine Nook Schoolboys. I was a footballer to be honest and RL def not my first sport, but enjoyed it. Learnt early on that would wreck my body though so stopped playing aged around 16.
Andy Raleigh (went on to play for Giants) smashed my shoulder and never been right since!
Crowning glory was a Yorkshire Cup final played at Dewsbury Rams ground. Big slope on that pitch vs St John Fisher school.
They were far better organised school and were 22-0 up at half time, playing up the considerable slope.
Madness happened though and we scored 24 unanswered points in second half, again playing up-hill. They were shell shocked. Jeez I love sport!

I scored my one and only try at Headingley going round Willie Poching.

Playing for school in the 2nd row, about 14 years old.
Went into a defensive tackle and clashed my head, came up holding the ball so just started to run. I could hear everyone shouting but thought they were cheering me on. I was in the clear and dived over the line planting the ball down under my chest.
I stood up to celebrate and everyone was falling about laughing. Both sides!
I’d run the wrong way and dived over the 20m line. Was concussed I didn’t have a clue what had happened till someone stopped laughing long enough to explain. Was back playing agin following week, those were the days!

Sadly it was nothing exciting, a sevens tournament at Headingley many years ago. I could run and was elusive but was never any good so only ever played socially.

Think Eddie Rombo, but without the defensive attributes.

I had a minimal playing career at prop for school, but we won the Leeds District league three out of four years. One curtain raiser at HQ many moons ago (Schofield era). I was actually pretty good except for hands like cow udders.

If any of of you lot played for Clapgate you are a grub!
