Well you may throw your rock and hide your hand
Workin' in the dark against your fellow man
But as sure as God made black and white
What's down in the dark will be brought to the light

Impossible to genuinely name just one film IMO

I'm going to avoid multi film series like LotR etc

Shawshank Redemption is a masterpiece
Schindlers List is the least enjoyable but most captivating and emotionally stirring movie I've ever experienced

I watched Schindler's List again recently. Wouldn't necessarily call it the best film ever, but I'd forgotten just what a masterpiece of cinema it is.

Shawshank Redemption, Silence of the Lambs and American History X are three of my personal favourites, but it's difficult to quantify what "Best Film" even means, never mind to pick one.

On the flip side I always felt the Pulp Fiction is probably the most overrated film ever made. I didn't hate it, it has some pretty iconic moments, but I've never quite understood why it's such a mainstay of people's top film lists. Style over substance.

I would agree that 'best' film is pretty much impossible to quantify, in any terms other than your own personal, very subjective opinion.

For example - I love Pulp Fiction; I guess I was the right age to feel that QT was making cinema that was aimed at me - shamelessly geeky and reverent of the past, but modern, edgy and lacking any respect for structure or convention. I would suggest that Pulp Fiction is a triumph of style *and* substance!

Current thoughts - Mago out or get running up them plantations, get fit or get rid.
Maybe a back up halfback, someone with a bit of experience on a short term deal.
Big tall strong running second rower, like a McMeekin or Sironen type back rower.

Most of Kubrick's work, if I had to pick one, then I'd go for Barry Lyndon.

Kubrick was a master. Spartacus, The Shining and a Clockwork Orange for me.

Just don't get why so many people vote for Shawshank Redemption.
It's not bad, I enjoyed it at the time but best ever? It's as if some people have been brainwashed by the media before they have seen it and then vote for it by default, just cause some top 100 film TV show voted for it.

Its the same as those who vote for Bohemian Rhapsody!!

Maybe because they like it?

They do say that opinions are like arseholes - everybody has one, and they all stink.

Bingo , how did great dude beat the swear filter :D

Fwiw I do agree about Shawshank being over rated , although still a very good film I wouldn't even say its the best Stephen King adaption let alone the best prison movie .
