A LOT depends on what is being said in contract negotiations and the general attitude of the player over them. Given that Jones was a regular for a considerable period (and turned in some very strong performances for his age) my guess is this has nothing to do with form or ability.

It's a similar story to Foster, Gaskell and a host of other juniors who have run afoul of the coaching team for one reason or another.

He's normally a centre or 2nd rower. He may play centre to cover Dawson who would move to wing/full back. Or he may just be there for a bit more experience being part of the squad,etc.
