Would it also be fair to say that by not spending more on player wages the business behind the club thus has more money to spend on such things as Rent on the stadium, quality merchandising, marketing and promotion etc all of which [ushould[/u be a contributing factor in making them more appealing to fans and sponsors alike?

Exactly - Its all well and good crying about not being able to bring in someone like Lockyer because they wouldn't fit him under the current cap, if they hadn't thrown so much money at several lesser 'names' who proved to be mediocre they could have bought one big player a la Lockyer in and allowed the kids to develop 'live' alongside just him.
