I dont see where Matty would fit into our squad, perhaps as back up to Robes at hooker? he does have a kicking game, which is something we are missing at the moment. Still very underwelming if thats our recruitment for next year.

His kicking game is only worthwhile if he's on the pitch, which I doubt he would be most of the time. He would at least provide cover for hooker and half back from the bench.

Anyway, it is speculation at the moment.

Quite a few people are now saying Richard Owen has signed for St Helens, he is under contract though so a fee would be involved.

If we sign Matty Smith I will lose faith in Saints' entire recruitment process.

What a monumental step-backward that would be.

I'd rather sign Gareth Thomas.

Now that I wouldn't mind. Although I find it difficult to imagine Saints getting involved in transfers that require fees at the moment.

Given that Matty Smith has just appeared in League Express in interview expressing how he is looking forward to working with Longy at Salford, my guess is that whoever started the rumour off that we might be in for a swapsies with Salford is a bit of a naff rumour monger!

I don't think Owen has lived up to his billing. He's not recovered from the serious leg break.
