im not on about across the board this season!
the board have clearly allowed our squad to age, almost to an extent that a major overhaul will be neccessary very soon

imo the person managing the squad should be responsible for replacing ageing players by stagnating their contracts so that only 1 or 2 older players need replacing at any one time

long was replaced without really giving kyle a decent shot in the 7 position
we have had to bring another older player back in fozzard after he was released for obviously being past his best, and kept cayless instead?

i just think that a more professional running of our club would have made our transition easier between older and newer squads, only time will tell whether we suffer or not

IMO you're an idiot, how do you manage this if 5/6 of your stars are the same age? yeah, you let scully finish 1 year, longy the next and KC and gidley the one after! like we have done!

Cayless was contracted, fozzard wasnt

Kyle is the England international 7, the difference there is he had a good (excellent) No 6 with him, now he has a gutless waste of space.
you have just shown your complete lack of knowledge

oh i'm an idiot am i?
my point is that even after we have let long go,we still have this list of talented but ageing players on our books
wellens
meli
gidley
fozzard
cunningham
puletua
flannery
fa'asavalu
only time will tell if i'm an idiot or not,but there's far too many ageing players in that list for my liking

Our recruitment has been very very poor over the last 3yrs for whatever reason. We can't allow players like long, gilmour, talau, scully, fozz(when he 1st went) and few others leave without bringing players in.

I had few heated debates last year on this subject when people was telling me we didn't need to sign players as our youngsters are so good. As I said back then that half these kids won't make it at top level. That's just how it pans out.

Potter has taken over the worst saints squad we've had in super league. Our goal now has gone from winning the grand final and challenge cup to making the top 4 and a good cup run.

I also think potter has run out of which little idea he had. We are nit Catalan and can't play the way they did because we don't have a good pack and players like mogg, greensheilds, stacey jones who can make things happen like he had at dragons.

Re: Potter out NOW : Sat Feb 13, 2010 8:01 pm
but here's the rub. We may not win a trophy for a few years, and i dont mind that(i do mind the the current style of play), but our club has no debt at all and a fully financed, soon to come brand new stadium.
The reasons for our recruitment have been stated and debated to death. We have some fabulous youngsters coming through, and they will soon form the back bone of the next decade of sucess for our great club. Short term pain for long term gain.

Trust me mate, these youngsters won't be the backbone of the next great saints team. It just won't happen. Teams have to be very lucky for this to happen like the when utd had there great team come through and Leeds had that luck also.

I'm willing to bet you that only eastmond, wheeler and maybe lomax will make super league level at saints.

The likes of ashurst, dixon, dean, emmitt and the rest will not.

If this is what sir mac has hoped would happen, then that is one hell of a gamble and pretty poor buisnes from a so called buisnesman.

Pretty much anyone that knows anything about Rugby knows the vast majority of youngsters fall short of whats required at the top level. At Saints we we ar no different but I think money has tied are hands a little while were still in KR. Hopefully a move to the new stadium and the increased revenue streams from that will start to change things. Saying all that if Eastmond,Moore,Wheeler,Lomax and maybe Magennis all make it through to become proper first team regulars that would be imo a spectacular success.

We could have Jammer, Robes, Moore, Eastmond, Wheeler and lomax, all of these have or definitely could make it, 4 of them are internationals already consisting of a prop, 2 hookers, 7, 6, full back, if that isnt a great backbone of a side i dont know what is!
