As its the last league match at Widnes tonight i have booked the day off work, so took time out to take the latest instalment of the new stadium piccies.
I arrived to see a busy building site and a tingling in my spine that something was not quite right with the view of the East stand on Peasley cross lane.
It felt different, and then i saw what had changed. Scattered along Peasley cross lane were the corpses of trees.
Moving up the entrance road past the former gatehouse I saw the scattered remains of what were once blossom trees.
All that now exists of these once proud trees are wood chippings and tree stumps.
Opposite the main stadium entrance just one tree remains. Its bark tainted with the mark of death; or just maybe its a kiss of salvation, and this tree is to retain its place amongst the Saints.
At the site entrance i saw the fluorescent monsters that were carrying out this butchery. The chainsaw they handled screamed out in pleasure, as the last of the trees along Peasley Cross lane fell.
As a result of all this carnage there is now an almost uninterrupted view of the stadiums South and East stands from Peasley Cross. I cant help feel though that the death of all these trees has taken away some of the beauty of the new stadium. The site has now taken on a rather cold and clinical look. All concrete and tarmac.
