Does this mean after opening the ground and testing it out we could find our capacity crowd slightly higher than initially thought or is the 18,000 about right?

Its an interesting thought.

However planning permission is only for stadium no higher than 17984. So i presume we would need to appply for further permission to increase it further.

Considering the two end terraces are each bigger than Wires end terrace, despite more generous capacity calculations at Saints, then i dont think there will be problems with the terraces capacity being grossly inadequate to meet demand.

If you read through Council stadium site it clearly state's that if the stadium capacity does not reach what was asked for, the developers bond will be call in.

Not quite that clearly apparently, as the bond is only put in place when they want to open the Tesco store before the stadium is complete. The bond is for the value of the outstanding value of the stadium works and in effect is a "guarantee" for the council that Langtree will finish off the stadium works even though the money generating part of the development is up and running ie if Langtree don't finish the stadium the Council call the bond in and use that money to finish the stadium.

just been messing with some of the figures on the standing area's, there is plenty of leeway even in the figures given on the drawings never mind allowing for the maximum number of person's.
Add 1,800 more people if they one day allow the maximum amount in.

Looking at the plans do you think the home end will be the west side? I base this on we would be facing the scoreboard in the east stand at the side of the screen in the west (for decisions) and the home dugout is the west dugout? also that would mean we enter at the front of the ground.

I'd rather be able to se the big screen than the scoreboard.

You should still be able to see the big screen in the west stand, just as you can see it from the main stand now at Knowsely road, even though its on the same corenr of the ground as the main stand. The key thing will be how far back in the north west corner the screen will be placed, as this will be what influences visibility most.

One thing to note is that fans in the west stand should have no difficulty seeing the scoreboard, which will be there for every match and not just Sky games. Unless Saints plan on having a permanent video board, which i doubt.

Thinking about it, im curious as to whether in the final build things get altered, with the screen infact placed in the North East corner. The reason behind this thinking, is that originally the TV vans were supposed to be parked in the North West corner of the ground, with the associated TV box in the North stand.
TV vans have now been moved to an area behind the East stand, with the TV gantry in the south stand. Therefore it would make more sense to put the video screen up on the north east corner, as this would mean less cabling. infact looking on the st.Helens planning website, the councils own document details TV cabling as a health and safety issue that needs resolving before construction can begin.
In essence they dont want lots of thick cabling trailing across the pavement around the ground and causing a hazard to fans attending the ground. I therefore suspect they will therefore make provision for the cabling to be either ducted under removable covers around the ground, or else hoisted on poles above ground

What are the plans for playing the reserve and academy games?

The majority of Superleague teams now don't play their academy games on their first team pitches.
Will Saints use LSH Rugby Union pitch?

Re: Stadium Site pictures : Sun Jan 10, 2010 9:33 pm
The document says the use of the stadium pitch will be for sporting events only and is limited for use by :

St Helens RLFC first, reserve and youth team rugby league fixtures
Other domestic rugby and cup competitions fixtures
St Helens Town FC fixtures
International Rugby fixtures

Whilst these terms go for nearly all pro clubs I couldn't imagine Saints preventing the Reserves/Acedemy playing there unless it conflicts with a SL game with the potential for pitch damage before the main game.I also doubt Saints would be willing to cough up fees to other sports clubs for the use of their pitches to many times.
