Here's a speculator - As Lyon played in Super League pre 2008, does he still have an exempt status although he's been back to the NRL?

I'm pretty sure you lose it if you leave the competition. You never know though, stranger things have happened.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one. From my POV if you're good enough, you're old enough, and he looks good enough. He has a lot to learn but he's made an extremely good start. And everyone has to make a start somewhere.

No, Sam had actually played 14 games before being rested v Salford as he was going to France with the England squad (he wasn't picked to play, he was just selected to give him experience). He'd played more games than Smith.
He therefore missed the next two games and was on the bench v HKR when Smith tore his bicep, a season ending injury.

The strange thing about that game was that Noble had intended to bring Sam on at fullback as some stage of the game, but because of Smiths injury it never happened.

Lyon only played 2 seasons so didnt complete the 3 required to come off quota before 2008...also it is cancelled if a player returns to NRL!!

I am sure if we looked hard enough though we could find him an Irish relative like Pat Richards??

Number of years in the competition doesn't come into it, and neither does the nationality of the player or of his relatives. It's simply a matter of whether a player was already in the competition when new laws came into place in 2008.

I think you are right, though, that exemptions are scrubbed when a player leaves the competition. Indeed, since Lyon wasn't in the Super League in 2008, he never had one in the first place.

Turner didn't play at 6 for us, he played at centre. He played 7 for the 20's.

Sounds as though hudds have told mason he can leave. Would you have him back at saints? I think we could do worse, but also sem to remember someone saying him and brown don't get on, so maybe a non starter anyways.

I've not seen much of mason this year and seems to have has few injuries over the past few years but Nathan Brown will no his fitness levels.

On the subject of Brown and mason not getting on, the idiot that posted it also said Brett Hodgson left hudds because of brown, the following day Hodgson got man of the match against hudds and he said he was good mates with brown.
