Well, being a poor person, I can only afford Hull on Easter Monday so I wasn't with the crowd that witnessed that fantastic, amazing drop goal by the President (he's already got there in my book Saddened!). I had to make do with Sky. The whole team - Clarkey in particular of course - were desperate for Wigan to win, hence Ainscough got man of the match for scoring a debatable try! Still, I can't resent the Pies that given that we turned it back on them at some point in the second half.
What a gripper that match was, mainly because we made it 150% harder for ourselves for most of it. I think some of that was tiredness after the last few weeks (even the game against Wakey was difficult, given the sad circumstances) but I'm beginning to think our fumbles and bad decisions come when Potter has to change the team around, which of course he had to again tonight thanks to our growing injury list.
Once again, though, our defence was just outstanding. Gardner is proving to be a bit of a problem though as he does have a tendency to come in from the wing this season. I don't know why? I didn't notice it as much last season but perhaps that was because we were more dominant? I don't know. Anyway, Meli dropped a ball of course but generally speaking we were as poor as a poor team on a poor day for the first half and a bit of the second too. Then, for no apparent reason (maybe the fact that they got the lead) we clicked and from then on, referee's bizarre decisions excepting, we looked like we had them on the back foot.
I seriously hope Wellens is alright. That was one helluva head knock he took at the end and the risk really wasn't worth it. We had won whether they scored or not, thanks to Eastmond.
I'm still in raptures with that drop goal from Eastmond. What a class move. Great too for his first match back after I've lost count of how many months.
