I've always thought of McGuire as a good player, and I wouldn't normally wish injury on any player, but there was a certain hint of poetic justice to that.
Another classic:
You forgot to take off the "Saints Reduction Factor" when calculating the ban.

Standard suspension / Saints Reduction Factor = Actual ban for Saints player.

Therefore (2 / 3) = 0.666

0.666 < 1 therefore actual ban equals "less than 1 match".

Therefore ZERO.
Give the girl her dummy back.

Why would a player move to the other side of the country, uproot his family and play for an inferior team unless he was receiving a big pension topper.

Inferior to who.

Smart move by Long. The publicity won't do his career any harm.

But imagine if he had signed for Wigan - he lives locally, and he clearly remembers the dummy spitting that went on when Gary Connolly and Andy Platt signed for Wigan from Saints, not to mention the damage done to Connolly's parents' business.

Long has young kids, and a lot of people know where he lives. I doubt he would want his house to be vandalised.

Hell, I doubt he would even want to be name-called. He walks the walk, but he's a bit fragile underneath, methinks. You only have to look at what he did in Australia during the tri-nations to see that.

At least if he moves to the other side of the country, he doesn't have to witness what people will say about him, and he doesn't have to be here to experience it.

You can't compare Long's situation with Connolly. For a start - it's the club that is releasing him.

That's absurd. Why not?

Players moving from Saints to Wigan cause your fans to turn against them. That is a fact.

You lot went from saying Mickey Higham was great to saying that he was a joke, and third choice hooker, and not fit to burn within the space of 5 minutes.

There's friendly banter and there's hatred. Despite the fact that the board was culpable in the loss of Connolly to Wigan, Connolly himself arsed the club and the supporters around by saying 'Yes - I'm staying' one minute and 'No' the next seemingly for weeks. THAT is the reason he's hated. Platty didn't get anywhere near the stick that Judas did.

Long is loved by the supporters. He doesn't want to leave. That makes a big difference. Whilst I'm sure he'd get some stick (name me a player that doesn't) - there's no chance he'd suffer the abuse that Judas did. None.

You lot went from saying Mickey Higham was great to saying that he was a joke, and third choice hooker, and not fit to burn within the space of 5 minutes.

That's not an accurate representation of events. There were many people on this site (myself included) who said Higham went downhill after his first season at the club (mainly because other teams had worked him out). Even in his best days his distribution from the dummy half was a lottery. The first receiver never knew whether the ball would arrive near his boot laces or his ears. His discipline was also suspect. In his second season he turned into a penalty machine.

Erm, Higham WAS third choice hooker at that point and we said he couldn't pass. He still can't. He didn't get abuse because we all felt rather sorry for him having to go to you mob from a club challenging for trophies every year.

Same would go for Long, it would be sad seeing him play out his days at such a club. At least at Hull he can play his own game without being a ready made scapegoat for the fickle Wiganers.

No, I think you will find that was your lot, just like every other signing you have made since 1996. Its a stock wigan fan response. Best player ever ever when signed, then cr@p 3 weeks later

For sale full Saints kit (circa 1989). Shirts in pristine condition, but shorts badly soiled.

For 27 - 0 you get a trophy
For 75 - 0 you get sod all.

Wigan had eight in a row
Saints have five in a row

Not me fella.

My opinions on Higham have been well documented. We would have been better keeping Wagga.

another reason why I doubt he was offered anything by Wigan - Nobby sent him home from the tour.

I think it is a fabrication on Longy's part to get a few column inches and valuable publicity for his (auto)biography
