I like Royce as a guy and I know for fact he gives his all and puts every ounce off effort in to the job but he's not good enough. Let's get this idiot out before he ruins the club for years to come.'"
Something tells me you have an axe to grind, or you wouldn't say you like the guy and then call him an idiot. Maybe he has tactical limitations, but an idiot? It's a shame when fans turn to personal insults about a bloke who is clearly doing his very best for the club.

I'm not even sure he has tactical limitations. We were in control of the game for the best part of 60 minutes. I would say it was more a case of implimentation than tactics, and that the fault lies entirely with the players.
Like Mark Flanagan said on Twitter just, the fans deserved more than what they tossed out to us in the second half last night.

You are correct, whwn the game was going according to gameplan saints were well on top, only when cats started to throw the ball about and move away from their plan did they get on top. At that stage the experience of the cats squad overtook the youth of saints and we couldn't stick with them. It's febatable whether that's the coaches fault or not. Either way we have up learn and move on, not chick the baby out with the bath water.

I do like Royce and have spoke to him few times and know he puts a lot of time and effort in off the field as well but I just don't rate him as a coach. He's just not good enough.
It is possible to like someone as a person but think they are crap at their job.
I was very surprised he didn't do his post match interview in hattons hospitality lounge last night but Gary wheeler made the effort. I think with the talk of no contract offer and not doing his post match intereview is a sign he's feeling pressure.

| Quote Andy R="Andy R"This is the sort of thread I'd expect from clueless Leeds fans. The guy has taken you to a Grand Final already, which many would say you were unlucky to lose (Shenton and Wellens injuries), has integrated a whole host of young players into your squad, many in key positions and has seemingly coped well with the losses of the likes of KC and Graham.
You won't be the only good side to be beaten by a very good Catalans side this year either'"

| I wouldn't renew his contract and would offer to give him a lift to the airport. The guy is probably a good assistant and talks a good game but thats it I think. His recruitment has been OK as he has added the experience we need plus they tried for Griffin but he went to Leeds because Saints wouldn't match there offer. I wont go into finances but I can assure you it really wasn't a lot more he was asking for. As for Simmons though Saints seem clueless in attack and I think that is down to wests, at wests he was working with Marshall (enough said) the only real move I have seen is the drop off back inside which is useless when overused and compared to the NRL we're moving like slugs and it's easily picked off. His sub policy is killing us and our defence is a joke. This isn't even a knee jerk reaction! Last year we were very poor at defending our own line and after listening to him at a fan forum last year it's no wander we never look up for a game he bored me half to death.
I hope McManus is roaming the globe looking for a good replacement cause I think we are on a downward spiral at the moment.

Robbie Paul made an interesting comment on last weeks SLS about edge defences not being set until after the first quarter of the season, that would explain the difference in the defence once Catalan started spreading the ball and testing our edge defence far more.

| It's the policies that get me and his blind use of them no matter what the opponent. He seems to have a general game plan and doesn't cater it to individual opponents.

| All this after only one defeat... I dread to think what's coming from the knee-jerk brigade after we've lost a few more over the next few weeks and end up down in 6th or 7th place come May as will likely be the case...
Everyone needs to remind themselves - it simply doesn't matter how we're playing right now. Resting and rotating players as much as possible (as Royce is doing) at this point and saving ourselves for the business end of the season is what we should be concentrating on and picking up a few defeats along the way is all fine and dandy frankly, no matter how worrying the late collapses we're developing the habit of seem to be on the face of it. Royce showed me enough last season to prove that he knows what he's doing and I'll judge him based on our performance in September, not now. If we were dominating teams, looking rock-solid in defence and winning every game with ease now, THEN I'd start worrying... We looked a lot worse than we do now at the same stage of the season last year and that all turned out 'reet ultimately I think it's fair to say?

I would say he did exactly that last might by going with 3 props from the start, as oppose to the first couple of games where wilkin was 13.

But how do you explain not using Lance effectively?
Resting our biggest player against one the biggest packs?
Resting one of our in form players in Dixon against one of the better sides we will come up against?
Starting with 3 props is what he usually likes to do, so I'd imagine he may have been waiting for TP to return to full fitness before implementing this tactic.

I don't like saying this but I'd get shut now and put KP in charge until we find a good proper coach. Of he's left to continue he will set us back years.
The fact he's signed a 32yr old back row as our replacement for jammer means the next coach has to try and get a prop in as Royce didn't.
Same with lance, he's signed a fullback to cover the loss of our scrum half when we are in desperate need for a experinced halfback and the next coach has to deal with this problem as well.
I think not many would relish taking over with the above recruitment mess and worst thing is they are both quota players.
