and i bet if you conducted a poll, most would go for long as the better scrum half, hence why most people have chosen him in this thread.

IMO Bobby was a more gifted player, but his demons ruined him

There you see!

Bobby was a better pure Scrum Half - Long possibly a better player but that wasn't the question - or was it - I forget now......

I'd agree with that. Goulding was a better all round scrum half than Long IMO but what Long has done in the 7 shirt for Saints dwarfes Gouldings achievements. We can't forget that Bobbie lead us to our first championship in 20 odd years but Long has continued that success and shown far more dedication to the club than Goulding ever did.

I also agree twith the point RE: Martyn/Pryce. It's a gnat's whisker between the pair of them for me and if Pryce stays fit and ends his career at Saints then I would imagine he'll overtake Martyn in years to come.

I would say there is little debate that these 4 are stand out players in their position. Anyone have a different oppinion?
I went for Prescott at 1. Would I argue he was a better full back? No, although he was an excellant player.

Prescott was, for me, an absolute pleasure to watch. There aren't many guys that made the entry money worth while as easiliy as he did.

As for anyone who doubt tommy Martyn's entry - there's been plenty of times were he's carried a lot of weight on his shoulders (including underperforming half back partners) and when he was fit and firing, we swept all before for us.

The thing about Tommy Martyn is that he was a great great player for the Saints, but what made everyone love him so much was his character as much as his rugby brain.

Would Pryce ever mischievously kick a spare ball further onto the pitch to put the opposition off at a tap penalty? Or more to the point, would he get interviewed after the game with a big silly grin on his face and claim it was the foot of God? For me it's stuff like this and his obvious love of the game that will leave Tommy tattooed on my rugby memory for ever. Pryce will probably go on to be more successful in his career and win far more medals with the Saints but people will never talk about him with the same warmth and affection as they do about Tommy.

Utter nonsense chappie.

I'd take Gardner over all those except Sullivan (only due to pace) and Albert.
