Wello from his immediate and subsequent reaction obviously believed it was a foul and he is not known for lying / cheating.

If you look at "JD's" face while the replay was being shown, he does look rather sheepish/guilty and he does have form for that sort of thing.

You can't suggest a line of argument that goes - "Well its obvious that x happened..."

The rules are clear - the video ref can only adjudge on what he is asked to by the ref. Why do you think the ref tells him what to check?
