I'm not convinced about the Dorn signing. He's a good player in the respect that he can fill in a number of positions but I'm still not sure that he is a good enough alround player.

Luke Dorn?????

No disrespect to the player, but I have some reservations about our recruitment strategy if Luke Dorn is the best we can come up with.

With the loss of so many experienced and key players over the last few seasons (and for next few too) our player targets do seem a little erratic. We may really struggle to stay in the "top four" if we continue to sign good club players rather than supplementing what we have with some quality.

Wigan sign Ryan Hoffman, Jeff Lima and Brett Finch and we sign Shenton, with likley signings of LMS and Dorn? Sorry, by anyones standards, there is no comparison.

Maybe the stadium investment has a more serious effect on the on-field product than we truly expected.

Welcome to Saddened! circa 2006/7/8/9. I've been saying that for years. The ins haven't matched the outs for years now. It's either they are saving money for other things or that they are paying it all to the kids in the hope that they turn out to be worth it. Either way it means we won't win a trophy anytime soon.

Having said that Dorn is a decent enough signing. Quality experienced cover for the backline for the first time in a long while. He's quick which is never something to sniff at and he won't be expensive either.

I hear we've signed a 'gun' young player called Gary Wheeler. Apparently he's a centre who could be good enough to play in the halves.

I can't tell you my source, but he claims to have seen him in the flesh.

I think it depends on priorities. Wigan can't help themselves. They have to buy success. It would be a betrayal of their roots to do otherwise. Meanwhile, our chairman has publically expressed a hope to have local lads play for Saints and a preference where that isn't possible for British players. Shenton could be a dud or he could be a real find. We will no doubt find out in the fullness of time. Meanwhile, we have recruited Josh Perry, and he's no softie. Apparently we also recruited Sia Soliola but last time I saw him he disappeared into the fog ...
