Can Harry raise them for next week? : Mon May 04, 2009 10:07 am
Were we drawn away to Catalans I have little doubt we would be going out of the Challenge Cup next weekend. Fortunately for us it is at home.
Despite the horrible performances of the last two weeks, I don't think the picture is as bad as the Goons are telling us. The era hasn't quite ended yet and I doubt we're really going to lose to sides as poor as Wigan too many more times this season, despite their triumphant chufty banging. But if we are to stay in the cup until at least until we play the mighty Wigan again, Harry needs to raise the energy levels and performance almost infinitely. Catalans are much the same as Wigan, a limited team capable of shocking performance, but also of raising their game and putting in the odd big game in a sea of inconsistency. They should not be underestimated.
Harry passed his first test as Saints coach with the near perfection we showed in the double victory over Leeds to leave us top with our big rival knocked out of the cup in their own back yard. But his ability to juggle the 17 or 18 players we have is going to be the test of whether we win anything this season.
